After about a week with the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 (TB321FU), Robby Payne of Chrome Unboxed was sold on it as a compact companion for games, video, browsing, and reading—not as a laptop replacement or work-first tablet. His enthusiasm is a personal, time-bounded impression, not proof that it is the best small Android tablet available today.
What made the Legion Tab Gen 3 click
Payne’s account, published May 9, 2025, centers on the tablet’s role as a second screen. He used it for mobile games, streaming video while doing other things, browsing, Gmail, and books. The 8.8-inch display felt large enough to make games and reading more comfortable than on a phone, yet compact enough for one-handed reading. His examples were everyday rather than lab-based: keeping a Cubs game visible while playing Mario Kart 8 with his son, and playing PUBG Mobile, Fortnite, and Golden Tee. They illustrate the sort of portable entertainment he valued, not a guarantee of how every game will perform for every owner.
It works best as a companion, not a computer replacement
The distinction that shaped Payne’s verdict was how he expected to use the tablet. He did not see it as a “desktop replacement” or something he would primarily work from. It became compelling when he treated it as a device for “content consumption” and casual use alongside his phone and computer.

That role did not become automatic in a week. Payne sometimes left the tablet at his desk or in his car. Once he built it into his routine as a secondary screen, he simplified its home screen around a clock, weather, and folders for video, games, and reading. That is useful evidence of how one reviewer adapted to a small tablet, not a prediction of how every owner will use one.
Software ergonomics were the main frustration
Payne described the software as close to stock Android 14, but less satisfying to him than Pixel UI. He specifically disliked the notification spacing, lock screen, and home-screen grid, which he described as 4×5 or 4×6. These interface details matter on a compact tablet: an awkward layout can make a device feel less natural even when its screen size suits the task.

The article does not provide a reproducible battery test, measured screen-brightness result, or full review methodology. It therefore supports a use-case impression, not a complete assessment of endurance, outdoor visibility, or long-term software support.
What the model specifications say—and do not say
The Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 3 is model TB321FU. Notebookcheck’s Legion Tab series listing gives it an 8.8-inch, 2560 × 1600 display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and listed weight of 0.35 kg. Notebookcheck’s page also summarizes reviews from other publishers and lists subsequent generations. Those reviews contain their own judgments and caveats, including comments about brightness, expandable storage, software support, and audience-specific alternatives. They should not be read as findings from Payne’s week with the Gen 3, nor as a controlled head-to-head comparison.

The headline captures one reviewer’s enthusiasm for a particular use case in May 2025. It is not a current-market ranking. Notebookcheck’s series page includes later Legion Y700/Legion Tab generations, and the Gen 5 coverage listed there is dated 2026. The available evidence does not establish which compact Android tablet is best today, or current prices, stock, regional compatibility, warranty terms, or software-support promises.

For a present-day purchase decision, compare the specific models available where you live across the factors that matter to your use:
- Size and weight: Check the actual dimensions and weight if you plan to read one-handed or carry it daily.
- Gaming and display: Consider performance and refresh rate, but also look for independent results for the games you play and brightness information for your environment.
- Software: Compare the interface and verified update-support commitments, not just the Android version installed at launch.
- Storage: Confirm whether the exact model supports expandable storage and whether its built-in capacity suits your games and downloads.
- Battery life: Seek comparable test conditions or reviews that match your usage; Payne’s account does not include a battery test.
- Price and availability: Check current local listings, since neither live pricing nor regional availability is established here.
- Ecosystem and purpose: Decide whether you want a compact Android entertainment device, a work-oriented tablet, or a different ecosystem.
For the narrower question—whether a small tablet can be an enjoyable portable screen for games, video, and reading—Payne’s week with the TB321FU makes a persuasive case. It does not settle whether that model, or any other, is the best buy in 2026.
