The Intel Core Ultra 9 285H gives the ASUS NUC 15 Pro+ strong short-burst CPU performance and capable integrated graphics in a compact, upgradeable desktop. Its trade-offs are audible fan noise under sustained load and a reduction in performance during a long CPU endurance test. That makes this configuration a better fit for compact productivity and multi-display work than for noise-sensitive rooms or demanding gaming without a separate graphics card.
This is a desk-side mini PC, not a laptop. You supply a display, and depending on the exact SKU you may also need memory, storage, and an operating system. ASUS sells several processor and configuration variants under the NUC 15 Pro+ name, so check the exact model before buying.
What is the ASUS NUC 15 Pro+ with Core Ultra 9 285H?
It is one configuration in ASUS’s NUC 15 Pro+ mini-PC family. ASUS’s March 19, 2025 announcement lists five processor variants: Core Ultra 9 285H, Core Ultra 7 265H (vPro), Core Ultra 5 235H (vPro), Core Ultra 7 255H, and Core Ultra 5 225H. The product materials also describe Wi-Fi 7 and support for multiple 4K displays. Those are family-level features; confirm the precise configuration and operating system for the unit sold in your market. ASUS’s announcement and product materials are the source for those manufacturer specifications.
ASUS lists the Core Ultra 9 285H option at 65W cTDP. That figure is not a promise that the processor is capped at 65 watts in every moment: Notebookcheck reports that the reviewed system allows the chip to reach 115W. The two numbers describe different power concepts, and the higher figure does not mean the NUC can sustain peak performance indefinitely. Notebookcheck’s review found performance declined during its long Cinebench R15 multi-core endurance run.

How fast is the Core Ultra 9 285H in this NUC?
Notebookcheck recorded 16,207 points in Geekbench 5.5 multi-core on its reviewed NUC 15 Pro+ configuration. This is a result from that review’s test setup, not a guaranteed score for every workload or firmware version. It indicates strong short-run CPU capability, but does not establish how the system will perform through every sustained professional workload.
The distinction matters if your work keeps all CPU cores busy for a long time. In Notebookcheck’s Cinebench R15 multi-core endurance test, the NUC did not maintain its full performance as the cooling system reached its limits. A short benchmark or a burst of everyday work may therefore give a more favorable impression than a lengthy render or other continuous CPU-heavy job.
What can the integrated graphics handle?
The Core Ultra 9 285H configuration uses Intel Arc 140T integrated graphics. Notebookcheck measured 27.5 frames per second in its 1920×1080 Extreme HD Preset OpenGL test. That is one result under one test and preset, not a general gaming frame-rate guarantee. Its game testing shows that performance varies by title and settings; demanding games may require reduced resolution or graphics quality, and the NUC is not a substitute for a gaming PC with a discrete GPU.

Notebookcheck also tested an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 connected over Thunderbolt 4. That is a separate external-GPU setup: the card is not included, and its results do not represent the NUC’s integrated graphics. An eGPU’s cost and performance depend on the enclosure, graphics card, and connection.
How loud and thermally constrained is it?
Notebookcheck measured about 44 dB(A) average noise and peaks around 53 dB(A) under load. The reviewer found the system quiet at idle, but its fan continued running. These are measurements from the review unit and test conditions, not ASUS noise specifications. The fan becoming clearly audible during sustained work is worth weighing if the PC will sit in a quiet bedroom, recording space, or shared room.
The same review links the cooling system’s limits under continuous load with the loss of sustained CPU performance. It does not establish component temperatures, long-term reliability, or behavior across every firmware revision.

What memory and storage can you install?
ASUS’s datasheet lists two memory-slot options, depending on configuration, and two M.2 storage positions:

On the listed module limits, the maximum is 96GB (2 × 48GB), using the memory type supported by the particular system. ASUS’s datasheet does not establish support for a 128GB (2 × 64GB) configuration. Do not infer system-level compatibility from a processor’s memory specification or an anecdotal report.

Notebookcheck describes its reviewed chassis as user-serviceable and says the shorter second SSD position accepts a drive up to 42mm long. Its review sample already had an SSD and two SO-DIMM modules installed, but that does not guarantee the same parts are included with every barebone or retail SKU.

What comes in the box, and which operating systems are available?
Notebookcheck’s test unit ran Windows 11 Pro and included a 150W power adapter and VESA mount. ASUS lists some configurations shipped without an operating system and materials for Windows variants as well as Ubuntu and Red Hat options. These details vary by product version and market, so check the exact retail package: a barebone listing may not include the memory, SSD, or OS you need.
Who should consider this configuration?
- Good fit: Buyers who want a compact desktop for productivity, multi-display work, and short bursts of CPU-intensive activity, and who value memory and storage upgrades.
- Think carefully: People working in quiet rooms or running continuous CPU-heavy jobs, because the fan is audible under load and the review found reduced sustained performance.
- Look elsewhere or adjust expectations: Buyers seeking strong performance in demanding games from the integrated GPU alone. The Arc 140T is better approached as an option for lighter games or reduced settings.
Before choosing a listing, compare the exact processor, included memory and storage, operating system, and ports against your needs. ASUS’s specifications establish the expansion slots and display capabilities, but current price, stock, and package contents depend on the retailer and region.
Does the NUC 15 Pro+ decode H.265?
The available product-specific evidence here does not establish the NUC 15 Pro+ Core Ultra 9 285H’s H.265 decode behavior, including codec profile, player, driver, or operating-system conditions. Do not treat a general processor capability as confirmation that a particular playback workflow will work; verify the exact software and media requirements for your setup.
