To make Chrome for Android request desktop sites by default, open More > Settings > Site settings > Desktop site, then select Desktop site. This is an existing Chrome setting, not a newly announced upcoming feature. You can also set a different preference for an individual website.
Choose how Chrome handles sites by default
In Chrome on your Android phone or tablet, tap More, then Settings. Under Advanced, tap Site settings and then Desktop site. Choose one of the three available modes:

Google documents these choices for Chrome on Android, but menu labels or placement may vary by app version or device. After changing the setting, refresh an open page to apply it.
Set desktop view for just one website
If you want most sites to stay mobile-friendly but need a desktop layout on a particular site, open that site and tap More > Desktop site. Chrome also lets you add a site exception from the Desktop site settings page or through that per-site control, so an individual site’s preference can differ from your general default. Google’s instructions for desktop mode settings cover both paths.

What to check if the desktop version does not appear
- Confirm that Desktop site is selected for the current page. A site’s per-site preference may differ from the general setting.
- Refresh the page after changing a setting.
- Keep in mind that some websites override the browser’s general preference, so selecting Desktop site for that particular site may be necessary. Google Chrome Help
Why some Android tablets open desktop sites automatically
Chrome for Developers describes a separate automatic behavior for premium Android tablets: desktop mode applies by default on tablets with a display of at least 10 inches and 8 GB of RAM, unless the user has previously opted out. That tablet behavior is not the same as enabling Desktop site as your general preference on a phone. Chrome for Developers
For developers, Chrome’s desktop mode changes the default user agent on qualifying tablets and uses a viewport matching the window width, rather than the fixed 980-pixel virtual viewport associated with older mobile-mode handling of desktop-only sites. Google also cautions developers not to identify Android based only on the user agent; feature detection is safer because Chrome on Android and desktop Chrome do not share every platform API. These implementation details do not guarantee that every desktop site will work well on a phone.
