Yes. Microsoft says it has included Search ads in Copilot since the AI experience launched in 2023. That does not mean every Copilot answer contains an ad: Microsoft describes sponsored placements as separate from its organic response, clearly marked, and shown when relevant. Those are Microsoft’s stated policies, not independently verified behavior across every user, query, or market.
Where ads appear in Bing and Copilot
“Bing AI” can refer to more than one experience. Microsoft distinguishes ordinary Bing search results from the generative AI experience in Copilot, and the ad formats differ.

Are ads mixed into Copilot’s answers?
Microsoft’s stated distinction is between the organic answer and sponsored material accompanying the conversation: it says paid content does not influence the organic response and that sponsored placements are marked. That is the company’s product description and policy; the available sources do not independently establish how placements appear in every live Copilot response.
Microsoft also described Dynamic filters for narrowing product options in a March 2025 announcement, saying pilots would begin that month in English-language markets. These dated rollout statements are not a current availability list, and they do not show that every product query—or every answer—includes a sponsored placement.
Why you may be seeing an ad
Microsoft Support says Bing ads can be based on current or recent searches, sites visited, Microsoft account details, information provided by advertisers, or LinkedIn profile information. The support page discusses Bing ads generally; it does not establish that every one of these signals is used for each Copilot ad. Microsoft Support: Why am I seeing this ad?
Microsoft Advertising said in March 2025 that Copilot ads had fully ramped in English-, French-, and German-speaking markets. This is a dated rollout statement, not confirmation of present availability worldwide or for every language. The reviewed sources do not provide a current market-by-market availability matrix.
What is known—and what is not
- Established by Microsoft’s statements: Search ads have been part of Copilot since its 2023 release, and Bing search can show labeled paid listings alongside organic results.
- Microsoft’s stated policy: Copilot’s organic responses are not influenced by sponsored content, which is distinctly marked and shown when highly relevant and from trusted sources.
- Not established in the available sources: how often an individual sees a Copilot ad, what share of answers contain one, whether ad frequency has risen, or whether the separation between ads and organic answers holds in every live case.
Microsoft Advertising also reported in March 2025 that ad-relevance metrics in Copilot were 25% better than in traditional search, citing its internal data. That is a company-reported comparison, not an independently verified measurement. Microsoft Advertising, March 2025
