Blackbaud CRM’s major web-interface upgrade is SKY UX, a phased modernization of the web experience for Blackbaud Enterprise Fundraising CRM. It is distinct from the older CRM 4.0 transition to WebUI. To begin exploring SKY UX, Blackbaud says customers need Service Pack 42 or later, Blackbaud Cloud Operations hosting, and Blackbaud ID.
What the Blackbaud CRM interface upgrade is
Blackbaud introduced SKY UX for Blackbaud CRM in its May 2026 product briefing. The update describes a modernized, responsive interface with persistent icon-based navigation, clearer layouts, and an emphasis on accessibility and scan-ability. Blackbaud says familiar layouts and workflows are intended to make the transition easier for users.
This is not the same change as Blackbaud CRM 4.0’s historical move to WebUI, documented in the CRM 4.0 New Features Guide. The current upgrade is the phased SKY UX modernization described in Blackbaud’s May 2026 newsroom update.
Blackbaud characterizes SKY UX as an interface change rather than a rewrite of CRM’s underlying business rules or data model. In its May 2026 product briefing summary, Community author Alison Madrigal wrote: “SKY UX is not a rewrite of your business rules or data model. Validations, workflows, and data integrity remain intact—allowing teams to adopt the new experience confidently and incrementally.”

What users can access in SKY UX
The rollout is incremental, so the available functions depend on which capabilities have reached a customer’s environment. Blackbaud says the initial focus is on frequently used constituent and interaction workflows, with expansion planned across prospect management, revenue, events, reporting, and administration.

Who can explore SKY UX and what is required
Blackbaud’s stated prerequisites are Service Pack 42 (SP42) or later, Blackbaud Cloud Operations hosting, and Blackbaud ID. SKY UX is included with CRM, according to the May briefing, and administrators can control access at the security-group level. Blackbaud says release timing is the same across regions.
Hosted customers who do not use Blackbaud ID need to migrate to single sign-on (SSO) to meet the identity prerequisite. The briefing does not describe SKY UX as available to on-premise or self-hosted environments.

What carries over—and what may not appear yet
Blackbaud says validations, workflows, data integrity, business rules, and the data model remain intact as the interface rolls out. That continuity does not mean every customized screen element will be visible in the early SKY UX releases: the May 2026 briefing says those releases will not display customizations.
For developers, Blackbaud says SDK support will continue and that it plans to provide updated customization documentation. Organizations with custom interface elements should account for their visibility and review the vendor’s customization guidance when planning adoption.

How to plan an incremental rollout
- Confirm the environment: check that the CRM instance is on SP42 or later and hosted by Blackbaud Cloud Operations.
- Check identity setup: confirm Blackbaud ID is in use; hosted customers still using another sign-in arrangement need to migrate to SSO.
- Select an initial audience: use security-group controls to determine which users can access SKY UX.
- Review custom interface elements: identify customizations users rely on and account for the briefing’s warning that early releases do not display them.
- Check current feature availability: compare the workflows needed by the pilot group with Blackbaud’s latest release information, since capabilities are arriving in stages.
Where to find official documentation and training
Blackbaud introduced the Blackbaud CRM Resource Center as a central destination for task-oriented documentation, best practices, security and cloud-migration resources, “What’s New” videos, and Blackbaud University-led learning. Administrators and implementation teams can use it to prepare users and review adoption guidance. The May 2026 briefing is available through the Blackbaud Community product update summary.

The May 2026 briefing also discusses Chat for Blackbaud AI and the Development Agent, but these are separate from the SKY UX interface rollout. It says Chat for Blackbaud AI is included for Blackbaud CRM customers using Cloud Operations when it becomes available in their environment; it is not available to on-premise or self-hosted customers. The Development Agent is described as an optional additional subscription, not part of standard CRM subscriptions. The briefing alone does not establish general availability or current terms for either feature, so customers should verify status with Blackbaud.

What the upgrade does—and does not—establish
Blackbaud presents accessibility, consistency, scan-ability, and reduced retraining as intended benefits of the refreshed experience. The cited product updates provide feature descriptions, not independently measured results for accessibility, speed, or productivity. Customers should assess the workflows and user experience in their own environment as capabilities become available.
