You can’t install Apple’s Windows iTunes application natively on a Chromebook through an Apple-supported ChromeOS installer. To listen to music, use Apple Music in Chrome. To back up, restore, update, or sync an iPhone or iPad, use a compatible Windows PC or Mac.
Why you can’t install iTunes on ChromeOS
Apple’s iTunes page offers iTunes downloads for Windows. It describes a different setup on current macOS: music, TV shows, movies, podcasts, and audiobooks are handled by Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Podcasts, and Apple Books. The page does not provide a ChromeOS version or a Chromebook installation path.
Google’s Chromebook Help points users to streaming music through websites, including Apple Music, rather than installing iTunes. A Google Chromebook Community answer posted March 10, 2026 also says iTunes is not supported on ChromeOS; that is community guidance, not an Apple product-policy statement.
Listen to Apple Music on a Chromebook
If your goal is to play music, open Apple Music in Chrome and sign in. This is Apple Music’s web experience, not the Windows iTunes application. Google lists Apple Music as an example of a music service Chromebook users can stream from a website in its Chromebook music help.

Manage an iPhone or iPad from a computer
Apple Music in Chrome does not provide the Windows iTunes device-management application. For tasks such as backing up, restoring, updating, or syncing an iPhone or iPad, use a compatible Windows PC with iTunes or a Mac with Apple’s current device-management software. A Chromebook is not a substitute for that computer-based management workflow.
Should you try Linux or Wine instructions?
Some third-party guides describe attempting to run Windows software through Linux and Wine on ChromeOS. The official Apple and Google guidance cited here does not establish that approach as a supported iTunes installation. If you need dependable iPhone or iPad management, use compatible Windows or Mac hardware instead of relying on an unsupported workaround.
