ADP reported higher revenue and earnings, strong client retention, and larger shareholder distributions in fiscal 2026. Those results are consistent with a successful business, but ADP’s filings do not measure how much of the performance came from its cloud transformation. The evidence supports a closer look at the strategy and the results—not a claim that cloud migration alone caused them.

What ADP means by its cloud-based HCM strategy

ADP describes its strategic human capital management (HCM) platforms as cloud-based and scalable by company size and location. The platforms are intended to bring core workforce tasks together, including recruiting, onboarding, paying, managing and retaining employees.

In its fiscal 2026 Form 10-K, ADP says: “Our strategic cloud-based platforms, scalable by company size and location, allow clients to recruit, onboard, pay, manage and retain their people in one single space with precision, compliance and confidence.” This is the company’s description of its platform strategy, not an independent assessment of its effects.

How ADP’s fiscal 2026 results compare with fiscal 2025

ADP’s financial and client indicators improved or remained strong across the two fiscal years. Fiscal 2026 ended June 30, 2026; the figures below are company-reported results, not estimates of cloud-transformation returns.

What the results say about whether the transformation paid off

There are two reasonable readings of “pays dividends.” In the literal shareholder sense, ADP returned $2.6 billion in cash dividends in fiscal 2026, up from $2.4 billion in fiscal 2025. In the broader business sense, revenue, diluted EPS and total cash returned to shareholders rose in fiscal 2026, while Employer Services client revenue retention was 92.1% and new business bookings grew 6%.

Those outcomes show that ADP delivered growth and returned capital during the period in which it describes its HCM platforms as cloud-based. They do not establish that cloud transformation caused the growth, retention, margin expansion or distributions. ADP’s annual filings do not provide a standalone cloud-transformation ROI, quantified migration costs or savings, or an independent causal analysis. Share repurchases are also distinct from dividends: together they made up the $4.7 billion returned to shareholders, but only $2.6 billion was dividend payments.
