Before sharing the presentation, check the image’s license against how and where you plan to use it.
Download a Shutterstock photo
- Find the image you want on Shutterstock and confirm that its asset marking and license suit your presentation and intended distribution.
- Purchase or access the image through an applicable Shutterstock pack or subscription, then choose Download and save the file to your device. Keep the license and download information with the presentation project. Shutterstock explains its purchasing options at Shutterstock plans.
Insert the photo into PowerPoint
- Open your presentation and select the slide where you want the image.
- Choose Insert > Pictures > This Device.
- Browse to the downloaded image, select it, and choose Insert. Microsoft documents this local-file workflow in its PowerPoint picture-insertion instructions.
- Use PowerPoint’s picture controls to resize or crop the image to fit the slide.
Check the license before using or sharing the presentation
A Shutterstock download is licensed content, not a transfer of ownership or unrestricted permission to reuse the image. The license attached to the asset determines what you may do with it. Shutterstock’s Help Center comparison, dated August 18, 2026, describes Standard and Enhanced image licenses as worldwide and perpetual, while listing different permissions and limits for the two license types. Review the license comparison and the license agreement for the image and use case.
Do not assume that every PowerPoint presentation requires an Enhanced license. Check the applicable terms especially if you will distribute the deck, use it for a client, or incorporate the image into a broader commercial project. Shutterstock’s agreement identifies restrictions, including that Standard and Enhanced licenses do not permit commercial use of editorial content or use of content as a logo or trademark. Shutterstock says a validly licensed image can continue to be used after a plan ends. That does not by itself allow you to pass around the original image as a standalone asset or transfer account access; follow the agreement for your situation.

Use Microsoft Stock Images instead, if available
If you do not need a specific Shutterstock image, supported Microsoft 365 versions may offer built-in content through Insert > Pictures > Stock Images. Availability and the library offered depend on your subscription and PowerPoint version. Microsoft’s guidance explains the Stock Images insertion option and the applicable Microsoft 365 content-use terms. Microsoft’s content license governs that material; it is separate from a Shutterstock asset license, and the content should not be extracted for use in another context.

Choose the image source that fits your slide
