You can switch from Windows 11 to Deepin Linux, but Deepin 20.4 is not a current release and there is no basis to recommend that every Windows user switch today. Deepin’s download page now lists Deepin 25.2.0 as a new release and Deepin 20.9 as legacy. Before changing operating systems, check that your essential apps, devices, and work or school requirements are supported, then try the current release without erasing Windows.
Is Deepin 20.4 still current?
No. Deepin’s official archive dates the 20.4 image to January 18, 2022. Its release notes list Linux kernel 5.10.83 for the LTS option and 5.15.6 for the Stable option; those are historical version details, not the kernels in today’s Deepin release. The archived amd64 ISO is listed as 3.1 GiB. Deepin’s 20.4 announcement and archive listing also describe release-time security fixes, installer changes, and desktop features, but do not establish the release’s current security-support status.
The 20.4 product overview advertised a Chromium-based browser update, CPU and memory monitoring with configurable thresholds, and File Manager access to third-party app entries. What should you choose instead?
Deepin’s current download page lists Deepin 25.2.0 as a new release and labels 20.9 a legacy release. If you are considering Deepin now, use its current release information rather than treating 20.4 as a fresh installation target. Do not assume a direct upgrade from 20.4 to the current release is supported. Deepin’s installation guidance specifically describes upgrading from 20.9 to Deepin 23 with the System Upgrade Tool, and does not establish the same route from 20.4. Deepin installation guide
Should you leave Windows 11?
That depends on whether Deepin can replace the work you actually do. Neither the 20.4 release notes nor the current installation guidance provides a complete compatibility matrix for Windows applications, games, accessibility tools, peripherals, or specific PC models. Check current documentation from the makers of every essential app and device, and test your own workflows before you replace Windows.

If you are considering Linux because your PC cannot run Windows 11, check eligibility first. TPM 2.0 is one Windows 11 requirement, and Microsoft says it may be available but disabled in firmware. Depending on the PC, firmware settings may label it Intel PTT or AMD fTPM. This is one check, not a full eligibility test. Microsoft: enable TPM 2.0 on your PC
How to test Deepin before replacing Windows
- Make a requirements list. Include essential apps, games, accessibility tools, printers and other peripherals, and any employer or school requirements. Check current compatibility information from each vendor.
- Check the current Deepin release and its installation guidance. Confirm the release you plan to use and read the steps for your PC before making changes. Deepin documents a custom installation option for a Windows-and-Deepin dual system, but that does not guarantee a safe or compatible setup on every machine. Deepin installation guide
- Back up important files. Store a separate copy of anything you cannot afford to lose before changing partitions or installing an operating system.
- Try it before erasing Windows. If you proceed with installation, a dual-boot setup may let you retain Windows while evaluating Deepin. Follow the current guide carefully and do not proceed if its steps or the partition choices are unclear.
- Test real tasks. Check whether your apps, devices, network, audio, display, and work or school workflows behave as required. Make the switch only after you know what will and will not carry over.
What Windows 10’s end of support means
The Windows lifecycle issue is separate from the Deepin 20.4 release date. Microsoft says Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025; Windows 10 devices still function, but no longer receive regular security and software updates or technical support. That fact does not mean Windows 11 is unsupported, nor does it make Deepin 20.4 an appropriate replacement. If you are still on Windows 10, choose a supported operating system based on your device’s eligibility and your compatibility needs.
