VMware Fusion remains available, and Broadcom announced Fusion 26H1 on May 14, 2026. Fusion Pro is free for personal, educational, and commercial use, although free users do not receive Broadcom Global Support Team tickets.
What happened to VMware Fusion?
The wording “VMware completes Mac virtualization software” can suggest that development has ended. Broadcom’s announcements instead describe an actively released product: VMware Fusion is still available, and Fusion 26H1 was announced as generally available in May 2026.
The major change many Mac users may remember is licensing. On November 11, 2024, Broadcom announced that VMware Fusion and Workstation would be free for commercial, educational, and personal users, and that their paid Pro versions would no longer be sold. Broadcom product marketing lead Mark Chuang described the change as making the products “available for free to everyone—commercial, educational, and personal users alike.”
Is VMware Fusion free, and what support is included?
Broadcom’s current FAQ describes Fusion Pro as free across personal, educational, and commercial use. Updates and security patches continue, but Broadcom no longer sells new support contracts for these desktop hypervisor versions. Customers who already have an active support contract retain the support specified by that agreement until it expires.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Free users should expect to rely on community forums and self-service materials rather than opening support tickets with the Broadcom Global Support Team. This distinction matters for organizations that need vendor-backed incident support: the software license may be free, but free access does not include that direct support channel.
What happened to VMware Fusion Player?
Fusion Player reached end of sale on April 30, 2024. Broadcom says the Player editions were replaced by the Pro editions, which are now free for all use cases. In practical terms, someone looking for Fusion Player should look for Fusion Pro rather than expect to purchase or download a current Player edition.

Which Macs and guest operating systems does Fusion support?
Fusion supports Intel-based Macs and Apple silicon Macs, but guest compatibility depends on the host processor architecture. On Apple silicon, Broadcom identifies Windows 11 for ARM and many Linux distributions as supported guest systems. It cautions that some x86 guest operating-system features are unavailable because of hardware architecture differences.
That means Apple silicon support should not be read as a promise that every Intel guest operating system or its features will work unchanged. Check whether the guest OS and the specific applications or features you need are compatible with the architecture of your Mac before relying on a VM for a critical workflow.

What can you use Fusion for?
A virtual machine (VM) is an isolated software environment with configurable virtual processors, memory, storage, and I/O. Broadcom lists software development, application testing, system emulation, home labs, certifications, and education as Fusion use cases. For example, a developer can use a VM to test an application in a separate operating-system environment without replacing the Mac’s host system.
How to download VMware Fusion Pro
- Go to the Broadcom Support Portal and register for an account or sign in.

- Find the Fusion Pro download. Broadcom says Fusion Pro 13.5.2 and later are included in the free model.

What changed in Fusion 26H1?
Broadcom announced Fusion 26H1 general availability on May 14, 2026. The vendor lists support for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Fedora 43 and 44, SUSE Linux Enterprise 16, openSUSE 16.0, and FreeBSD 15.0, along with lifecycle timestamps for virtual machines. Is Fusion the right choice for your Mac?
Fusion is a plausible fit if you need to run supported guest operating systems for development, testing, learning, or lab work and its architecture limitations match your workload. Before choosing it, confirm the guest OS and application requirements, particularly on Apple silicon, and decide whether community-based help is sufficient. Users who require direct vendor support should check their existing contract terms rather than assume that the free edition includes support tickets.
