EndeavourOS 21.4 “Atlantis” arrived on 3 December 2021 with Linux 5.15.5 LTS. It also enabled PipeWire and the systemd FSTRIM timer by default, and added Zstd transparent compression to the Btrfs option in its Calamares installer. Atlantis is a historical release, not the current EndeavourOS version.
When Atlantis was released
EndeavourOS’s project chronology dates Atlantis 21.4 to 3 December 2021. It was the project’s first release named after a spacecraft and its first to include the HotFix tool, which could patch a released ISO. EndeavourOS release chronology
The release-era report identified the kernel as Linux 5.15.5 LTS, rather than simply an unspecified 5.15 build. It also listed Mesa 21.2.5 and Mozilla Firefox 94 among the software versions highlighted at launch. Phoronix’s 3 December 2021 report
What changed in EndeavourOS 21.4
PipeWire was enabled by default
Atlantis enabled PipeWire by default for audio and video stream management. That describes the release’s default configuration; it does not establish a performance comparison with other audio setups.

FSTRIM timer was enabled by default
The systemd FSTRIM timer was enabled by default. FSTRIM is associated with issuing trim operations on supported storage; the release report identifies the timer setting but does not provide benchmark results or quantify any effect.
Btrfs installer option used Zstd compression
For users selecting Btrfs in Calamares, the release described Zstd transparent filesystem compression. This was tied to the Btrfs install choice, not a claim that every Atlantis installation used Btrfs.

Hardware and update utilities received changes
Release-era coverage also described sanity checks for NVIDIA drivers and kernel updates, additional information in EndeavourOS information utilities, and a window for configuring the update notifier’s schedule. These were reported features; no independent test results or detailed compatibility matrix were provided.
Who EndeavourOS is aimed at
EndeavourOS describes itself as close to Arch Linux and intended for Linux users with intermediate knowledge who want to customize their systems hands-on. The project also characterizes the distribution as lightweight, with few applications preinstalled. Those descriptions help frame the release: Atlantis was not presented as a fully preconfigured, hands-off desktop system.

Is Atlantis still current?
No. The official project chronology records numerous releases after Atlantis, including Titan Nova on 28 August 2026, described as an update boost before the upcoming Triton release. Atlantis is useful as a historical reference for EndeavourOS’s 2021 defaults and package baseline, not as a current installation recommendation.
