Yes. Eligible K–12 students and educators can get Figma for Education free through individual verification or a school or district deployment. The offer is limited by eligibility and region, and it does not include Figma AI, Figma Make, or Figma Sites for K–12 users.
Who can get Figma for Education free?
Figma says applicants must be current students or educators, have an existing Figma account, be old enough to consent independently, and apply with a school email. Availability is limited to selected regions. School staff who are not teachers do not qualify under Figma’s stated standard. Self-directed study, startups, edtech companies, and nonprofits are not considered qualifying classrooms. Online courses, bootcamps, or workshops need structured, curriculum-based instruction led by a teacher or mentor. See Figma’s eligibility and program details.
How to get Figma for yourself or your classroom
The right application route depends on whether you need an individual education account or access for a school community.
Individual educator or high-school student access
- Create or sign in to a Figma account.
- Apply for Figma for Education using your school-issued email. An educator seeking individual access should select “High school” in the application.
- For individual high-school applicants, Figma lists one year of access for students and two years for educators. Reapply when the term ends if still eligible.
Access for students through a school or district
Educators seeking access for their students should use Figma’s separate K–12 application rather than the individual route. Figma says the length of a K–12 deployment is set by the domain administrator, so confirm the school’s arrangement with its administrator.

District IT teams can manage and deploy licenses through Microsoft Education, including SAML single sign-on provisioning. Microsoft’s setup guide covers creating the Figma account, configuring SAML SSO in Microsoft Entra ID, organization setup, and classroom use. Microsoft says qualified K–12 organizations receive Figma’s Enterprise license and access to Figma and FigJam. Figma also documents administration through Google Admin Console using its App Licensing System, plus integrations with Google Meet, Calendar, Docs, and Sheets. The available route depends on the school’s environment; consult Microsoft’s Figma for Microsoft Education setup guide and Figma’s current help page.
What features do K–12 users get?
Figma’s current help documentation describes the K–12 school or district offer as Enterprise, while its 2025 Form 10-K describes the free K–12 offer as the Organization plan. Because Figma’s plan terminology differs across those sources, treat the benefit as free Figma for Education access and check the current naming with the school or in the product.

K–12 and high-school Education users do not have access to Figma’s AI tools, including Figma Make and the agent in Figma Design, or to Figma Sites. Figma states that those features are available to higher-education and bootcamp Education users instead. The K–12 offer should therefore not be understood as including AI features or Figma Sites.
Free classroom lessons and project materials
Figma’s Design fundamentals for high school classrooms page provides structured design lessons, short video tutorials, ready-to-use Figma files, and classroom templates. Its examples include creating websites and digital posters. Eligible users can verify an education account for free, and eligible primary and secondary schools can contact Figma’s education team about school deployment.

What happens to student work when education access expires?
Education status is tied to the email address used for verification. Figma says changing that email after verification revokes the status. When status expires, members of an Education team can become view-only. For owner teams with four or more files, Figma says the team may be downgraded and locked; users can download or move files. Teams with three or fewer files can continue under Starter limits. Reverification restores Education features for eligible users.
For class projects or graduating students, teachers should identify who owns important files and plan to preserve or move them before accounts change. Figma’s Education help article describes the current expiration and team limits.

How long has Figma been used in classrooms?
In an April 23, 2020 post, Figma reported that more than 100,000 people around the world were already using it in classrooms. That is a historical company-reported figure, not a current adoption count. In the same post, UC Berkeley professor Eric Paulos described Figma as bringing online collaboration to visual design. The current free offer is governed by Figma’s eligibility rules, not by that historical reach.
