At DocuWorld 2025 in Berlin, DocuWare presented AI capabilities intended to help partners and customers find information, process documents, manage invoices, and connect structured data to analytics tools. The April 2025 announcements included a chatbot prototype called Intelligent Insights, later expected to be named Ava, alongside updates to document processing and invoice management. The event report does not establish that the prototype or every announced capability was generally available.
What did DocuWare announce about AI at DocuWorld 2025?
ChannelPro’s Bobby Hellard reported on April 11, 2025, that DocuWare used its annual EMEA partner conference in Berlin to outline AI-enabled document and workflow capabilities. The article estimated that around 800 guests attended at the Estrel hotel; this is the report’s approximation, not a verified attendee count from DocuWare. ChannelPro’s event report describes announcements spanning document discovery, document processing, invoice management, and access to structured data.
How the announced capabilities serve different tasks
The announcements addressed distinct user and integration needs rather than competing products. The April 2025 report characterized Intelligent Insights as a prototype, while describing the other items as updates or an API announcement; it did not provide launch dates or confirm general availability.
| Capability | Task it addresses | Form described in April 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Intelligent Insights, expected to be called Ava | Find and compare documents; request summaries or selected information | Chatbot prototype |
| Intelligent Document Processing | Capture and process documents | Updates announced |
| Digital invoice management | Manage invoice workflows | Innovations announced |
| API for structured data | Make DocuWare data available to analytics and integration services, such as Microsoft Power BI | API announced |
Intelligent Insights: a document-focused chatbot prototype
The most prominent AI announcement was a prototype chatbot initially called Intelligent Insights, which the report said was expected eventually to be named Ava. Its intended uses included locating and comparing documents, generating summaries, and retrieving selected information from them.

ChannelPro characterized the system as trained only on B2B data and said it could develop through customer feedback. Those details describe the product as presented at the event; the report does not confirm whether or when the chatbot launched, which plans or regions it supports, or what features it has now.
Document processing, invoices, and an API for analytics
Intelligent Document Processing
DocuWare announced updates to Intelligent Document Processing, its capability for document capture and processing. The report gives no feature-by-feature specification, performance figures, or availability information for those updates.
Digital invoice management
The company also presented innovations in digital invoice management. The event account does not specify their exact workflow changes or establish a release date.
Structured data for integrations
An announced API was intended to expose structured data from DocuWare for use with analysis and integration services. ChannelPro named Microsoft Power BI as an example. The report does not establish that a particular Power BI integration, or the API itself, was generally available at the time.

How Natif.AI fits into DocuWare’s AI plans
ChannelPro connected several of the capabilities presented at DocuWorld to DocuWare’s 2024 acquisition of German AI startup Natif.AI. According to the article, Natif.AI continued to operate separately while receiving greater resources from DocuWare to support growth and service development. That is the report’s account of this specific arrangement, not a broader description of how DocuWare handles acquisitions.
CEO Michael Berger described the balance between collaboration and separate operations to ChannelPro: “There is the exchange on the roadmap side, the levels of interaction and inclusion, including them in company events and other things while still keeping their own town halls and their own HR and so on.”

DocuWare’s stated view of AI and human work
DocuWare executives presented AI as an addition to employees’ work rather than a replacement for workers, according to ChannelPro. CTO Michael Bochmann used the image of boarding a plane without a pilot to make a point about trust and human oversight in fully automated processes. This is the company’s stated position as reported at the event; the analogy is not independent evidence about the safety or reliability of AI systems.
