For the strongest story-led experience, start with What Remains of Edith Finch; for a brief, intimate story, choose Florence. This curated ranking compares seven Annapurna Interactive games by narrative, interaction, and what is actually known about their length—not by invented scores or unsupported hour estimates. Annapurna’s catalog is broader than this selection, spanning more genres and upcoming releases.

How to read this ranking

The order is an editorial judgment about the selected story-forward games, not an official Annapurna Interactive ranking. “Story” considers emotional impact, clarity, character work, and how well the premise develops. “Gameplay” considers the variety and nature of interaction, challenge, and how the mechanics serve the experience. “Length” uses an official duration only where one is available; otherwise, the descriptions focus on the kind of experience rather than claiming a completion time.

These games tell stories in markedly different ways: through family vignettes, relationship scenes, environmental clues, memories, exploration, a repeating time loop, or everyday minigames. Pick the form of interaction you want as much as the premise.

Annapurna Interactive games ranked

1. What Remains of Edith Finch — strongest story-led anthology

What Remains of Edith Finch follows Edith as she explores her family home and tries to understand why she is the last Finch. Its unusual family tales are experienced through distinct vignettes, each centered on a family member’s life on the day of their death. That structure gives the game room to shift tone and style from one story to the next, making it the most compelling choice here for players who want a narrative built from separate, memorable episodes.

Gameplay centers on first-person exploration and the different sequences that make up each tale. Annapurna identifies Giant Sparrow as the creator and lists the release date as April 24, 2017. Its official page does not provide a completion-time figure, so there is no publisher-verified duration to compare with Florence.

2. Florence — most compact, intimate relationship story

Florence tells the personal story of Florence Yeoh’s first love and changing relationship with cellist Krish. Rather than relying on conventional action, it uses bespoke interactive vignettes to portray stages of the relationship, including flirting, conflict, mutual growth, and separation. That makes it the clearest fit for someone seeking a concise, emotionally focused story.

This is the only game in this selection with an official duration: Annapurna Interactive describes it as lasting “around 30 minutes” on its undated official page, accessed in 2026. Mountains developed the game, which Annapurna lists as a 2018 release. The 30-minute figure is the publisher’s description, not a comparative completion-time measurement.

3. Gone Home — best environmental investigation

In Gone Home, you arrive at an empty family home in 1995 and investigate what happened by examining rooms, objects, notes, and letters. The story emerges from what the house contains, so progress is driven by observation and interpretation rather than combat or a conventional sequence of puzzles.

Annapurna describes its play as open-ended exploration and observation, with no combat and no puzzles. That quiet, self-paced approach suits players who enjoy piecing together a story from a place and its details. The publisher’s page identifies Fullbright as the developer but does not state a completion time.

4. Hindsight — reflective memory exploration

Hindsight follows a woman as she tries to make sense of her life. You revisit a childhood home, inspect possessions, and use objects as windows into memories. Shifting your viewpoint lets you enter moments from the past, making the act of looking closely central to both the storytelling and interaction.

Rank #3
Gorogoa
  • Uniquely Imaginative Puzzles
  • Gorgeously Hand-Drawn Gameplay

It is a natural pick for readers drawn to reflective imagery and memory rather than action. Annapurna lists Team Hindsight as developer and August 4, 2022 as the release date. The official material cited here gives no completion-time estimate.

5. Stray — most tactile exploration adventure

Stray puts you in the role of a cat separated from its family, trying to escape a decaying cybercity and unravel an old mystery with help from a small drone named B-12. Its third-person gameplay includes moving through layered environments, sneaking past threats, and interacting with the city’s inhabitants. Of these seven games, it is the strongest fit if you want a more immediately game-like exploration loop alongside a clear narrative hook.

BlueTwelve Studio developed the game. Annapurna’s official page does not state a completion time. A 5th Planet Games news release dated November 19, 2024 said the Nintendo Switch physical edition was then available from global retailers and online storefronts through a partnership with Annapurna Interactive, BlueTwelve Studio, and Skybound Games. Nintendo’s US store listing describes its Switch edition as digital; do not treat that listing as a physical-product offer. Retail stock may have changed since the 2024 announcement.

6. Twelve Minutes — highest-concept thriller loop

In Twelve Minutes, a man is trapped in a twelve-minute loop after a detective enters his home and violence follows. He must use what he learns in each iteration to try to change events. The top-down, real-time interaction makes repeated experimentation in a confined setting the central mechanic.

Annapurna calls it an interactive thriller, identifies Luis Antonio as developer, and lists 2021 as the release year. The premise makes it a distinctive choice for players who want a tightly bounded mystery to investigate, but the official information here does not establish a completion time or a comparative replayability claim.

7. to a T — most unusual character interaction

to a T is an episodic adventure about a teenager known as Teen, whose unusual posture shapes daily life in a coastal town. As Teen navigates routines and relationships, they discover a mysterious lineage. Its minigames make interaction deliberately distinctive: you manipulate Teen’s arm to handle objects and their mouth to eat or drink. Town exploration, customization, and encounters with characters round out the experience.

Which Annapurna game has the best story?

For a story assembled from striking, self-contained family tales, choose What Remains of Edith Finch. For a close-up relationship story told through interactive moments, choose Florence. Gone Home is the better match for uncovering a family mystery through a home’s details, while Hindsight focuses on the way objects can bring memories into view. These are different kinds of storytelling, so the best fit depends on whether you prefer vignettes, investigation, or reflection.

How long is Florence, and what about the other games?

Annapurna Interactive says Florence lasts around 30 minutes. For the other six games in this ranking, the official material cited here does not provide comparable completion-time ranges. That means a trustworthy shortest-to-longest ranking cannot be made from these sources. Describing one as “longer” or assigning an hour count would go beyond the available official duration information.
