Its fan-facing Ai.lonso feature is a text-to-speech tool, while reports of agents being blocked at websites concern a broader commerce-access problem.
What Aston Martin Aramco announced
The announcements concern Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, not necessarily the road-car maker Aston Martin Lagonda. The team described two distinct, multi-year partnerships in 2026:
| Partner and announcement date | Announced role | What the announcement establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Cohere, March 4, 2026 | Selected team members would gain access to Cohere’s North agentic AI platform for enterprise generative and search AI. The team cited potential support for performance, engineering, and operational work, including decision-making, data analysis, and efficiency. | It establishes the partnership and intended uses, not measured performance gains. |
| Cognition, February 9, 2026 | Support for using AI on autonomous software-development tasks. | It establishes the partnership’s stated purpose, not independently verified results. |
In the Cohere announcement, Jefferson Slack, Aston Martin Aramco’s managing director of commercial and marketing, described a shared commitment to “precision, speed and continuous improvement” and said the organizations would explore ways to improve performance across the business. That is the team’s stated ambition, not a report of results already achieved.
What the team’s AI looks like inside the organization
A July 9, 2026 technology forum recap offers a wider view of the team’s approach. It emphasizes people directing, prioritizing, and validating AI output; security controls, including zero-trust principles; and data infrastructure across cloud, on-premises, and trackside edge environments.
#1 Best Overall
This is the team’s account of a partner forum, not an independent assessment of its systems or security. It does, however, describe a model in which AI operates within organizational workflows under human oversight, rather than acting as an unrestricted consumer on outside websites.
Ai.lonso is a listening feature, not a shopping agent
The team’s October 10, 2024 feature announcement describes Ai.lonso as an accessibility and fan-engagement tool built with ElevenLabs and DeepReel. It reads selected articles aloud, initially in English, Spanish, and French. The feature is text-to-speech playback; the announcement does not describe an agent that can browse independently, make bookings, or complete purchases.

Why consumer AI agents can be blocked on websites
A separate issue is emerging as personal AI agents try to carry out online tasks such as booking flights, making dinner reservations, or ordering groceries. In an October 6, 2026 TechCrunch report, Sarah Perez described agents encountering website barriers. The examples show why a failed task does not automatically mean a company has deliberately barred all agents:
- Intentional blocking: Amazon intentionally blocked Meta’s Muse agent, according to the report.
- Unintended failure: Walmart said agent failures were unintended and associated with a human-verification button.
- Ambiguous bot defenses: Existing anti-bot systems may block an agent without explaining the reason clearly to the user.
These are examples from other companies. They do not establish that Aston Martin Aramco blocks agents on its website.

What an emerging commerce standard might change
The TechCrunch report said Meta, Walmart, Stripe, Sierra, Genesys, Rocket, NiCE, and Decagon were working on an open standard for communication between agents and businesses in online commerce. At the time of that report, this was work in progress—not a universally adopted standard or a guarantee that agents could transact on participating websites.
Such a standard addresses a different problem from enterprise AI partnerships: how a consumer’s agent can communicate with a business’s systems and permissions. A shared protocol could help, but access, identity, security, and the business’s own rules would still matter.

How to distinguish the three AI stories
| System or issue | Who it serves | What it does | Where it operates | Evidence available |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cohere partnership | Selected Aston Martin Aramco staff | Enterprise search and generative AI capabilities | Organizational workflows | Partnership and planned uses announced; outcomes not independently measured in the announcement. |
| Cognition partnership | Aston Martin Aramco’s software-development work | AI for autonomous software-development tasks | Organizational workflows | Partnership and intended role announced; measured results not established in the announcement. |
| Ai.lonso | Fans and website visitors | Reads selected articles aloud | Aston Martin Aramco’s website | Feature described as text-to-speech playback, not an autonomous task agent. |
| Consumer agents at commerce websites | Individual users | Attempts tasks such as bookings and purchases | Across third-party websites | TechCrunch reported both intentional blocking and unintended failures; it does not establish Aston Martin’s policy. |
The categories also differ in permissions and safeguards: an internal enterprise tool can be governed by an organization’s access controls, while a consumer agent needs a website to recognize and permit its actions. The cited announcements and report provide no common benchmark for comparing these systems’ performance.

In an Aston Martin Aramco Zscaler feature, Zscaler CMO Sunil Frida attributed to the company’s ThreatLabz team a 93 per cent increase in data flowing into external AI applications, amounting to around 18 petabytes, and said 77 per cent of enterprise employees were pasting company information into generative AI tools, many using personal accounts. The feature does not specify the underlying study’s calendar year or measurement window, so these figures should be treated as an attributed Zscaler claim, not independently confirmed or tied to a clearly defined period.
