To upgrade the Scanner in End of Abyss, collect the Cryptograph in the Lower Levels. You need the Incinerator and level-2 and level-3 access cards. The route starts on Lower Levels F1 and ends behind the level-3 door just north of the wall you burn.
What you need before looking for the Cryptograph
- Incinerator: required to burn through a wall on Lower Levels F1.
- Level-2 access card: found by following the ventilation ducts beyond the burned wall.
- Level-3 access card: found in an area reached from F1 after taking the door south of the burned wall.

How to reach the Scanner upgrade
- Go to Lower Levels F1. Obtain the Incinerator through story progression if you do not have it yet.
- Burn the wall on F1’s right side. Enter the large room behind it and descend through the hatch in the middle of the room.
- Collect the level-2 card. Follow the ventilation ducts to the far end and pick up the card.
- Find the level-3 card. Return to F1 and take the door south of the burned wall. Climb the stairs, follow the corridor to the left, and continue left in the next area. The card is in the upper-left part of that room.
- Open the level-3 door. Return to the hall with the burned wall. Use the level-3 card on the access door immediately north of the wall, then follow the route to its last room.
- Pick up the Cryptograph. The walkthrough says this upgrades the Scanner and unlocks the Second Sight trophy or achievement.
What the Scanner upgrade is known to do
The available sources establish that picking up the Cryptograph upgrades the Scanner, but do not specify a new scan range, reveal radius, map feature, or other precise mechanical effect. The fan-made End of Abyss reference site describes the Scanner and other unlockable tools as ways to open branching routes and revisit sealed corridors. In a GamesRadar+ review, Luke Kemp says the Scanner can provide information about notes and required keycards, and can help reveal power lines leading to door-opening nodes; he also notes that its information does not always explain how to solve a locked-door puzzle. Those descriptions do not establish a specific effect for the Cryptograph upgrade.
Cryptograph cheat-code warning
The walkthrough also reports that the Cryptograph enables hidden cheat codes. It warns that activating a code through the Logbook prevents additional trophies from unlocking on that save. If you are pursuing trophies, collect the Cryptograph for the Scanner upgrade but do not activate cheat codes on that save.
