As of Overwatch Season 5, which began October 6, 2026, Sombra is a Support hero with a revised kit. Hotfix can hack health packs and most enemy deployables, but Blizzard’s current hero page does not list the old enemy-targeted Hack as a base ability. Her current tools include ally healing, an area that weakens enemies, a teleport that grants brief stealth, and EMP.
Is Sombra still a Damage hero?
No. Blizzard’s current Sombra hero page classifies her as Support, and the October 2026 Season 5 announcement says she moves from Damage to Support. That change matters when reading older guides: advice built around her former damage-flanker role or former abilities may not describe the current kit.
What does Sombra’s Hack do now?
Hotfix heals an ally over time and can hack health packs and most enemy deployables. In the current official ability list, the old enemy-targeted Hack that disabled opponents’ abilities is not shown as a base ability. Do not assume that older effect applies to the current kit.
Blizzard’s June 2026 patch notes describe an earlier configuration in which Hack was removed, Stealth became an active ability, and Virus applied Hacked status. That is historical context, not the October Season 5 kit; consult the June 2026 patch notes only if you need to understand that earlier version.

What does Sombra’s Translocator do?
Translocator throws a beacon that Sombra can teleport to. Blizzard says the teleport grants a short stealth period afterward. In practical terms, the ability provides relocation and a brief opportunity to reposition; stealth is tied to the post-teleport window in the current description.

How do you counter Sombra’s stealth and abilities?
The current official descriptions do not establish named hero counters, matchup win rates, or a formal counter ranking. The following are general tactical responses based on what her abilities do, not Blizzard-published matchup advice:
- Track where she relocates. Pay attention to the beacon and her likely return or escape route. Translocator allows a teleport, so awareness of her destination can help your team avoid being surprised after the brief stealth period.
- Protect allies who are being pressured. Hotfix heals an ally over time, while Cyberspace can heal allies and weaken enemies in an area. Keep sightlines and team spacing that let teammates respond to pressure rather than leaving a target isolated.
- Disrupt predictable ability use when possible. If Sombra commits to a visible action or approach, coordinated pressure can make it harder for her to complete her intended play. This is general counterplay, not a claim that a particular hero or interrupt reliably counters her.
- Respect EMP near groups and barriers. EMP affects nearby enemies and destroys nearby barriers. Avoid clustering unnecessarily around vulnerable teammates or relying on a barrier to absorb the entire threat.
Why do older Sombra guides describe a different kit?
Sombra’s role and abilities have changed over time. Blizzard’s June 2026 notes document one earlier arrangement, while the October 2026 Season 5 announcement and current hero page present her as Support with Hotfix and Cyberspace. Check the date and patch context of any guide before applying its Hack, Virus, Stealth, or damage-role advice.
