Polymarket positions in active markets were described as carrying over through the April 28, 2026 CLOB V2 upgrade, but open orders did not: Polymarket says pre-cutover orders were wiped and had to be placed again. The distinction is that a position is outcome exposure tied to a market condition, while an open order is an instruction waiting in the exchange’s order book.
First, distinguish a position from an open order
“Bet” can refer to two different things on Polymarket:
- A position is an acquired YES or NO outcome token associated with a market condition. Polymarket’s documentation describes each market as being built around a condition using the Conditional Token Framework (CTF). Polymarket’s CTF overview explains that this condition and the exchange are separate parts of the system.
- An open order is an instruction to buy or sell that has not yet matched. It waits in the central limit order book (CLOB); it is not itself an acquired outcome position.
That difference explains why the upgrade could leave active-market positions in place while removing resting orders. A position represents exposure tied to the market condition. An order is an exchange-specific instruction that must use the exchange’s accepted format and signing rules.
What Polymarket says happened during the CLOB V2 cutover
Polymarket’s migration guide says CLOB V2 went live on April 28, 2026, with new exchange contracts, a rewritten CLOB backend, a changed order structure and signing domain, and pUSD replacing USDC.e as collateral. The guide states that V1-signed orders are no longer supported in production and that open orders from before the cutover were wiped. Read Polymarket’s CLOB V2 migration guide.

In other words, an old order was not converted into a new V2 order. Recreating it requires submitting a fresh instruction under the new exchange protocol. This matters even if the old order was intended to act on the same market and at the same price: the exchange needs a valid new-format order, not merely the old intent.
What carried over—and what required action
Polymarket’s Help Center upgrade notice, dated July 17, 2026, says balances carry over and positions in active markets carry over and resolve normally; it also says old open orders are cleared. The notice describes approving the new exchange contracts as part of migration. See Polymarket’s CLOB V2 upgrade notice. These are Polymarket’s stated general migration rules; they do not establish the cause of every individual account or wallet display issue.

What to do to trade again
If you use polymarket.com
- Follow Polymarket’s V2 migration flow and approve the new exchange contracts when prompted.
- For a prior open order you still want, submit a new order. Check its price, size, and market before confirming; it is a new instruction, not a restoration of the old one.
Polymarket’s guide says the frontend handles wrapping collateral through a one-time approval. For API-only users and power users, it describes wrapping USDC.e into pUSD through the Collateral Onramp contract. The migration guide covers the collateral and approval flow.
If you use the API
- Upgrade to the V2 SDK or update your raw order-signing implementation to match the V2 order format and signing domain.
- Update any collateral handling to the V2 pUSD flow described in Polymarket’s guide.
- Submit a fresh order and verify the API response and order-book status rather than assuming a V1 order remains live.
Polymarket’s migration guide lists the changed SDK package names, order fields, fee handling, exchange verifying-contract addresses, and EIP-712 domain version. V1-signed orders are not accepted in production, so merely keeping an old client or signature format is not sufficient.

Why the market outcome itself did not need to move
The exchange is where orders are submitted and matched; the position is associated with the market’s condition and its resolution path. Polymarket’s legacy UMA documentation describes the CTF condition and the UMA adapter as distinct components. See Polymarket’s UMA documentation. Changing exchange contracts therefore changes how users trade, not the event being predicted or the market’s resolution terms.

Polymarket’s notice gives a general continuity rule for active-market positions, but it does not enumerate every wallet, custody, account, or interface edge case. Check the relevant wallet and market records, confirm that you are viewing the account used for the position, and contact Polymarket support if the position still does not appear. The migration statements alone cannot identify the cause of a specific missing display or account issue.
