Micron sells DRAM—including high-bandwidth memory (HBM)—as well as NAND and NOR; Sandisk is centered on NAND flash storage. That makes Micron more directly exposed to AI-related HBM demand, while Sandisk’s exposure is primarily through NAND storage. Both remain subject to memory-market supply, demand, and pricing cycles, and Sandisk has an additional manufacturing relationship with Kioxia.
What is the main difference between Micron and Sandisk?
The key difference is product mix. Micron makes several kinds of memory and storage products, while Sandisk’s business is focused on NAND flash data storage. The companies overlap in NAND, but Sandisk does not have the DRAM and HBM breadth Micron describes in its filings.
Micron’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K describes products serving data-center, client PC, graphics, industrial, mobile, automotive, consumer, and embedded markets. It reported $28.58 billion in DRAM revenue for fiscal 2025; that figure is for DRAM alone, not total company revenue. Micron FY2025 Form 10-K.
Sandisk’s fiscal 2026 Form 10-K describes it as the parent company of a NAND flash data-storage business. Its NAND products serve storage markets including data center, client, and consumer uses. Sandisk FY2026 Form 10-K.

How does AI demand affect each business?
Micron: direct exposure through DRAM and HBM
Micron’s AI-memory exposure includes DRAM, especially HBM used in data-center systems. Its FY2025 filing says: “Cloud servers supporting AI and data-centric workloads require significantly increasing quantities of DRAM, including HBM, and NAND as the task of turning data into insight becomes increasingly memory-centric.” That is Micron’s own description, not an independent forecast. Micron FY2025 Form 10-K.
Sandisk: storage exposure through NAND
Sandisk’s AI-related exposure is through NAND storage demand, not HBM. NAND can be used in storage systems that support data-center workloads, but that is a different product and demand channel from the DRAM and HBM Micron sells. The distinction matters: AI-related demand should not be treated as identical exposure for the two companies.

In its FY2026 third-quarter filing, for the quarter ended May 28, 2026, Micron reported that AI-driven demand growth for memory and storage had exceeded its and the industry’s ability to increase supply, alongside improved pricing and profitability. This is a dated company-reported condition, not evidence that tight supply or favorable pricing will continue. Micron FY2026 Q3 filing.
How do their manufacturing models differ?
Micron
Micron describes its own manufacturing network and also uses subcontractors for some processes. Its manufacturing and supply risks include the execution demands of semiconductor production and the challenge of matching capacity with changing demand. See the risk discussion in its FY2025 Form 10-K.

Sandisk and Kioxia
Sandisk develops and manufactures flash memory with Kioxia through jointly operated Flash Ventures. The arrangement supports shared development and manufacturing, but makes coordination, access to supply, partner commitments, and the ventures’ terms important company-specific considerations. Sandisk’s FY2026 Form 10-K describes the relationship and associated risks.
What risks do Micron and Sandisk share?
- Pricing and cyclicality: Memory markets can move through periods of tight supply and strong pricing as well as oversupply and pressure. Both companies are exposed, though Micron’s mix includes DRAM and NAND while Sandisk is more concentrated in NAND.
- Shifts in demand and customer inventories: Changes in end-market demand or customer inventory levels can alter orders and pricing.
- Capacity and execution: Semiconductor manufacturing requires substantial investment and reliable production. Supply additions, product transitions, or manufacturing problems can affect results.
- Global supply chains: Both depend on complex semiconductor manufacturing and supply networks. Their filings discuss company-specific risks; broad product differences alone do not establish which business is safer.
These risks are reflected in the companies’ filings: Micron FY2025 Form 10-K and Sandisk FY2026 Form 10-K.

Does one business have less risk?
Not on product breadth alone. Micron’s DRAM, NAND, and NOR mix gives it exposure to more product categories and end markets, but does not remove memory cyclicality. Sandisk’s NAND focus makes NAND demand and pricing especially central, while its Kioxia manufacturing relationship adds a distinct partner-dependence factor. These are differences in the kinds of risk, not proof that one company is automatically safer or will perform better.
What does this comparison tell an investor?
This is a business-model comparison, not a valuation comparison or stock recommendation. Micron’s fiscal 2025 DRAM revenue cannot be compared directly with Sandisk’s total revenue because the figures cover different scopes. A meaningful investment comparison would require financial measures for the same periods and definitions, current share prices, valuation assumptions, and the investor’s objectives.
