Amazon says it may know information you provide, details collected as you use its sites, apps, devices, and services, and information it receives from other sources. You can inspect many account details under Your Account and review Alexa interactions separately in Alexa Privacy. Those controls are useful, but Amazon does not describe the account view as a complete export of every record it holds.
What kinds of information does Amazon say it collects?
Amazon’s U.S. Privacy Notice, last updated June 30, 2026, groups information into three broad sources: information you provide, information collected automatically through your use of Amazon services, and information received from other sources. Information you provide
Amazon says people may provide information when shopping, placing or changing orders, using content, updating an account or profile, reviewing products, communicating with Amazon, or interacting with Alexa. Examples include name, address, phone number, payment information, age, location, IP address, profile content, voice recordings, and purchase or content-use history.
Information collected through use
Amazon says it may automatically collect device identifiers, information from cookies and similar technologies, technical details, and information about how devices and services are used. Its examples also include website clickstream details, such as products or content viewed or searched for and how a person interacts with pages.

Information from other sources
The notice describes receiving information from sources such as carriers, merchants, Amazon subsidiaries, advertising-related interactions, linked internet-connected devices, and credit bureaus in some circumstances. Amazon also notes that someone may have more than one account if they have shopped using different email addresses or mobile numbers.
What can you see in Your Account?
Amazon says customers can access specific information in the “Your Account” section. Its list includes identity and contact details, payment options, profile information, Prime membership, household settings, purchase history, recent orders and subscriptions, and order history. It also names recommendations, recently viewed products, shopping lists and registries, content and device settings, communications and personalized advertising preferences, recently viewed content, and voice recordings associated with the account. This is an access point for particular account information, not a statement that Your Account contains a complete copy or inventory of everything Amazon holds. The information you can view may also depend on the Amazon services and devices you use.
How to review Alexa recordings and requests
Alexa has its own review controls. Amazon’s Alexa FAQ says you can review voice recordings, text transcripts, and typed requests in the Alexa app or on supported Echo Show devices. The FAQ also describes separate history-management controls for certain smart-home device status and usage information, including deletion or automatic deletion options. - In the Alexa app, open More > Alexa Privacy.
- Review the available controls for voice recordings, transcripts, and typed requests, and use the relevant history controls for the information you want to manage.
- Alternatively, visit amazon.com/alexaprivacysettings or use the Alexa Privacy controls on a supported Echo Show device.
Amazon’s Alexa Terms of Use, last updated May 14, 2026, state: “Amazon records, processes, and retains Alexa Interactions and other information from your account, such as your voice and text inputs, music playlists, shopping lists and shopping history, and information from Third-Party Services (such as when you link your email account or other Third-Party Service to Alexa) in the cloud to provide, personalize, and improve our services.” This statement concerns Alexa interactions and associated account information, rather than all Amazon customer data. Can you change or delete the information?
Amazon says customers can update some account information, adjust communication preferences, and use settings on many services to manage how information is used. Updating a detail does not necessarily remove the old version: the Privacy Notice says Amazon usually keeps a copy of a prior version when information is updated. For Alexa, use the specific review and history controls described above rather than assuming that changing a general account setting manages Alexa data.

What happens if you close your Amazon account?
Closing an account can cut off access to Amazon services and content. Amazon’s closure help page says customers will lose access to order history and the ability to print proof of purchase or invoices, and recommends downloading uploaded content before closure. It lists effects on Amazon Photos, Audible, Kindle, devices, and Alexa, among other services. What Happens When I Close My Account?
Closure is not a promise of immediate or total erasure. Amazon says it may be legally required to retain some records, including order history, for purposes such as tax and accounting or fraud prevention. Check the closure page for service-specific effects before proceeding.

What to check first
- Open Your Account to inspect the account details, orders, preferences, content settings, and other listed information relevant to the services you use.
- Open More > Alexa Privacy in the Alexa app to review Alexa recordings, transcripts, and typed requests.
- Before closing an account, download uploaded content you want to keep and consider the loss of order history and access to linked services.
