If your Sonos Sub will not connect or has stopped producing bass, first identify what the Sonos app reports: a Sub missing during setup, a Sub marked “not configured,” no Sonos products found, or a Sub that appears in the room but is silent. Those symptoms call for different checks. Start with power and the app, then follow the matching steps below; a quiet Sub alone does not prove the hardware has failed.

Check power and the Sub’s status light

  1. Firmly connect the Sub’s power cord to the Sub and a working outlet. Check that its paired Sonos speaker or home-theater product is powered too.
  2. Open the Sonos app and check whether it can see the paired speaker or room. The Sub connects wirelessly to its primary Sonos product, so confirm that product is available before troubleshooting the Sub alone.
  3. If you are adding the Sub for the first time, check its status light. Sonos says a flashing green light means the product is ready to be added; a different light state may indicate it was configured previously. Follow the applicable setup or recovery path below rather than assuming it is ready for a new setup.

For setup-specific guidance, see Sonos’ Product not found during setup page.

If the app cannot find the Sub during setup

Use the discovery steps when the app is searching for a Sub that has not yet been added. Sonos recommends trying these in order:

  1. Reboot the Sub, then try setup again.
  2. Temporarily move the Sub closer to the router and keep the phone or tablet running the Sonos app within 10 feet of the Sub during setup.
  3. Try setup from another mobile device.
  4. If the product you are setting up has an Ethernet port, Sonos says you can try connecting it to the router with Ethernet. Check your Sub model’s hardware first; do not assume every Sub has an Ethernet port.

These are discovery checks, not a reason to factory-reset a Sub that was already working in a configured system. Use Sonos’ setup troubleshooting instructions if the app still cannot find it.

If the Sub or room appears as “not configured”

A “not configured” status can mean the Sub has lost communication with its paired speaker. Sonos’ recovery guidance is to reboot the products in the setup, then check the app:

  1. Reboot every Sonos product in the affected home-theater or stereo setup.
  2. If the status remains, reboot the router: unplug it for 10 seconds, reconnect it, and allow it to start up before checking the Sonos app again.
  3. If needed, remove the Sub from its room in the app and add it back to the speaker it previously worked with.
  4. If the problem persists, check for wireless interference using Sonos’ not-configured troubleshooting guidance.

Follow Sonos’ full steps for a home theater or stereo pair that appears as not configured. Avoid removing or re-adding products unless you can select the Sub’s previous paired speaker.

Sonos Sub Mini - Black - Compact Wireless Subwoofer
  • Unlock your entertainment when you pair Sub Mini with Beam or Ray and experience dramatic depth that puts you inside your shows, movies, and games.
  • Within the acoustically sealed cabinet, dual custom woofers generate the full-toned low frequencies of a much larger subwoofer. Advanced processing further enhances the bass response.
  • Both woofers face inward to create a force-canceling effect that neutralizes distortion.
  • Trueplay tuning technology adapts the bass for your room's acoustics so it won't sound harsh, muddy, or flat—even if you place Sub Mini next to the wall. Supported iOS device required.

If the app shows “No products found”

This message points to the controller’s connection to the Sonos system, rather than proving the Sub itself is disconnected. Check the phone or tablet first:

  • Make sure it is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Sonos products, not a guest network.
  • If you recently changed routers or Wi-Fi settings, confirm the controller reconnected to the correct network.
  • Temporarily disable a VPN and check whether the app can find the system.
  • Check wired Ethernet connections in the system where applicable.

Use Sonos’ instructions for “No products found” if the app still cannot see any products.

If the Sub appears in the app but plays no sound

When the Sub is present in the system, inspect its audio controls before repeating setup. In the Sonos app, open the room or system settings and select Sub Audio.

  • Confirm the Sub control is turned on.
  • Raise Sub Level temporarily to check whether the Sub produces bass.
  • Use Reset in Sub Audio to return the Sub audio settings to their defaults if they may have been changed.

Phase Control adjusts bass at the usual listening position. Sonos says it is set when Trueplay is used and cannot be changed while Trueplay tuning is enabled. A phase adjustment may affect how bass is heard in the room, but it is not a guaranteed fix for a completely silent Sub. See Sonos’ Sub setup and audio-control instructions.

Verify that the Sub and paired Sonos product are compatible

Compatibility depends on the Sub generation, the paired product, and the controller app. Check the exact model names against Sonos’ current compatibility information before repeating setup or considering replacement.

  • Sonos says Sub 4 does not work with Playbar or Playbase and lists other unsupported pairings.
  • Sub 4 and Sub (Gen 3) are not compatible with the S1 Controller app.
  • Sonos lists all Sub products as incompatible with Move, Roam, Port, ZP80, ZP90, Connect, and Connect:Amp (Gen 1).

Consult the compatibility details in Sonos’ Sub setup article. If the app says “No Playable Products,” use Sonos’ separate No Playable Products troubleshooting page to diagnose the system-level message.

When to contact Sonos support

If the Sub is powered, the app and network checks are complete, the Sub and paired speaker are compatible, and rebooting, re-adding, and checking Sub Audio have not helped, contact Sonos support or ask for help in the Sonos Community. The available Sonos guidance does not establish a Sub-specific DIY repair procedure or validated replacement part, so do not open the product or buy a replacement based only on the absence of audible bass.
