The best alternative depends on what you want to learn: choose the BETAFPV Cetus FPV Kit for an all-in-one analog setup to practise FPV controls, the DJI Avata 2 for an immersive DJI goggles-and-motion-controller experience, or stay with the DJI Neo if automated camera-drone use matters and you already own compatible DJI gear. They are different routes, not interchangeable drones: compare the equipment you need, control style and camera priorities before choosing.
How the three options compare
| Option | Best fit | Included equipment or notable features | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|
| BETAFPV Cetus FPV Kit | Learning analog FPV with a single kit | Cetus quadcopter, LiteRadio2 SE transmitter, VR02 goggles, two batteries, charger, propellers and tools; N, S and M flight modes | BETAFPV listed 4–5 minutes of flight time and showed the kit as sold out when checked on 2026-10-07. Its analog video system is not equivalent to DJI’s digital goggles ecosystem. |
| DJI Avata 2 Fly More Combo | An immersive DJI FPV experience with motion control and camera footage | DJI’s 2024 single-battery combo included the aircraft, Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3. The three-battery combo added two batteries, a two-way charging hub and a sling bag. | The cited prices are US launch prices announced in 2024, not current quotes. Confirm today’s bundle, availability and local price. |
| DJI Neo with compatible controls | Automated camera-drone use or a route into DJI’s FPV-compatible accessory path | DJI lists compatible controllers and goggles, as well as smartphone control through the DJI Fly app over Wi-Fi. | Check the exact aircraft generation and accessory pairing. A compatible controller or goggles may add to the total cost. |
Choose the Cetus kit to practise FPV controls
The Cetus is the most self-contained beginner option here: BETAFPV’s listing includes the aircraft, LiteRadio2 SE transmitter, VR02 goggles, two 300mAh 1S batteries, a charger/voltage tester, propellers, a prop-removal tool, screwdriver and storage bag. That means a new pilot does not need to assemble a separate controller-and-goggles package to get started.
It offers N, S and M modes. BETAFPV says altitude hold is available only in N mode, making it the beginner-oriented option when you want some assistance while learning the controls. The listing gives the aircraft a 35 g takeoff weight, a 4–5 minute flight time and an 80 m flight distance in a wide, undisturbed environment. Those are manufacturer-listed figures, not independent test results.
BETAFPV also describes emergency landing on loss of control or low battery, and automatic disarming after a strong collision. Treat these as the manufacturer’s stated safety behaviors, not a substitute for supervision or safe flying. Because each listed flight lasts only a few minutes, practice sessions will depend on managing the two supplied batteries and allowing time to recharge.

The product listing showed US$149.99, reduced from US$159.99, while also displaying “Sold Out” when checked on 2026-10-07. That observed listing is not a dependable current offer; check BETAFPV’s Cetus FPV Kit page for present stock and shipping to your region. The listing identifies BT2.0 300mAh 1S batteries and 31 mm four-blade propellers as relevant replacement terms; confirm the revision and connector before buying replacements.
Choose Avata 2 for DJI goggles and motion control
DJI positions Avata 2 as an immersive FPV drone built around Goggles 3 and RC Motion 3. In its 2024 announcement, DJI described one-push flips, rolls and 180-degree drifts with the motion controller. It also said Goggles 3’s binocular cameras provide a picture-in-picture view of the real world, so pilots can check their surroundings without removing the goggles.

DJI’s 2024 announcement lists a 1/1.3-inch CMOS 12 MP camera, a 155-degree field of view, recording up to 4K/60fps HDR and 2.7K/120fps slow motion. DJI describes RockSteady and HorizonSteady stabilization, a propeller guard, a halt control, Turtle mode and automatic return to home in low-battery or signal-loss situations. These are manufacturer claims and specifications, not independent comparative test results.
DJI stated a maximum flight time of 23 minutes for Avata 2, measured on a production unit under controlled conditions, and a maximum video transmission distance of up to 13 km under its stated conditions. Neither maximum should be read as a promise of typical flight time or usable range in every environment.

For context, DJI announced US prices of US$999 for the single-battery Fly More Combo and US$1,199 for the three-battery version on 2024-04-11. Those are historical US launch prices, not current prices. The announcement also listed the FPV Remote Controller 3 at US$199; DJI says it enables Manual mode for more advanced practice. Confirm current regional bundles and prices on DJI’s Avata 2 product page before budgeting.

The Neo is not simply a manual FPV trainer, and it may be the more sensible choice if your priority is automated camera-drone use or you already own compatible DJI equipment. DJI says Neo has intelligent features without a control device and can also be controlled from a smartphone using the DJI Fly app over Wi-Fi.

DJI’s support article lists RC-N3, RC-N2 and RC 2 controllers for the Neo Series. Its motion-control group includes RC Motion 3, Goggles N3 and Goggles 3; it also lists DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 with Goggles N3 or Goggles 3. DJI specifies that Goggles 3 is required when Neo is used with RC Motion 3 or FPV Remote Controller 3. Confirm the pairing for your precise Neo generation and region in DJI’s Neo controller compatibility article before buying accessories.
A complete Neo specification and current regional price comparison is not established here, so do not assume the Neo is cheaper overall: the cost depends partly on which compatible controllers and goggles you already own and which you still need.

- Want a self-contained kit for practising FPV controls? Consider the Cetus, after confirming it is in stock and that analog goggles meet your expectations.
- Want a DJI-branded immersive flight and stabilized camera footage? Compare current Avata 2 bundle contents and price in your country.
- Want automated camera-drone use as well as the possibility of FPV-compatible controls? The Neo may suit you, especially if you already have compatible DJI gear; verify each pairing first.
- Already own a controller or goggles? Check official compatibility before paying for another. A bundle that appears cheaper may not include the accessory combination you need.
These choices also differ in the kind of flying they emphasize: Cetus modes support a learning path into manual control, Avata 2’s RC Motion 3 provides assisted acrobatics, and Neo’s described intelligent features support control-free automated use. Pick the route that matches the skill you want to practise, rather than treating a camera specification or bundle label as a proxy for beginner-friendliness.
