Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo set up two independent screens, connect both displays, choose Extend rather than Duplicate, and arrange their on-screen diagrams to match their positions on your desk. First confirm that your computer, ports, adapters or dock support the displays at the resolutions and refresh rates you want.
Check compatibility before connecting
Your computer’s video outputs and graphics or display capability determine how many screens it can drive and which display modes are available. Check the manufacturer’s specifications for your exact computer, especially with laptops. Apple’s Connect displays to your Mac guidance notes that the number of displays supported depends on the Mac model and the resolution and refresh rate of each display.
- Compare the computer’s available ports with the monitor’s inputs. You may need a compatible cable or adapter if the connectors differ.
- If using a dock, verify that it supports your computer and the exact number and configuration of displays; a generic dock is not guaranteed to work.
- Connect each monitor to power and to the computer or a supported dock, then turn the displays on.
Set up two separate screens in Windows
- Connect and power on both monitors, then open Settings > System > Display.
- Select Identify to show a number on each screen. If the second monitor is missing, expand Multiple displays and select Detect.
- Drag the numbered display rectangles so their positions match your desk—for example, place the left-hand monitor’s rectangle on the left. Apply the layout if prompted, then move the pointer across the boundary to test it.
- Under the display mode options, choose Extend. This lets windows and items move between screens instead of showing the same desktop on both. You can also press Windows key + P to switch display modes.
- Set resolution, scale, and refresh rate in Display settings to values supported by your computer and monitors.
Microsoft Support says matching the display diagrams to the physical layout can help the mouse move smoothly between screens. Windows also offers an option to remember window locations based on monitor connection, which can help if you regularly disconnect a laptop.
Set up two displays in macOS
- Connect each display to power and to the Mac using a compatible cable. If the connector does not fit, use a suitable adapter or a different cable.
- Open Apple menu > System Settings > Displays. Select and arrange the display diagrams to match the monitors’ physical positions.
- Check the available display options and choose settings supported by the Mac and monitors. Before buying screens for a multi-display setup, check the specifications for your exact Mac model; simultaneous display capacity varies by model and by the connected displays’ resolution and refresh rate.
- If connecting multiple displays, Apple advises connecting the display with the highest resolution first.
Arrange the screens for comfortable use
Place the monitor you use most directly in front of you, with the secondary monitor beside it. This arrangement follows OSHA’s Computer Workstations: Evaluation Checklist. If both screens are used equally, you may prefer to position them symmetrically around your viewing position.
#1 Best Overall
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Set the display tops slightly below eye level, choose a comfortable viewing distance, and position the screens to reduce glare and reflections. Apple says many people seem to prefer a viewing distance of 18 to 28 inches (45 to 70 cm); this is general guidance, not a universal requirement. If the monitors differ in size or stand height, adjust their height and angle so you can view both comfortably and move the pointer between them without confusion. An adjustable monitor stand or arm can help, but check that it supports your monitors’ mounting pattern and weight and fits your desk.
Fix common dual-monitor problems
The second screen is blank or missing
Confirm that the monitor is powered on and its video cable is firmly connected at both ends. Check that the computer port, cable, adapter, and any dock support the display configuration. In Windows, open Settings > System > Display > Multiple displays and select Detect. On a Mac, check the connection and consult the support information for your model if the display remains unavailable.

The pointer crosses at the wrong edge
Return to the display settings and drag the screen diagrams to match the monitors’ actual left-right and above-below positions. Test the pointer at the boundary afterward.
The resolution or refresh rate you want is unavailable
Check the supported modes for both the computer and monitor, along with any adapter or dock in the connection. On a Mac, display capacity depends on the model and the connected display settings, so a missing option may reflect a hardware limit rather than a setting you can change.
