Connect the headset using the route its model supports: a 3.5 mm plug to a compatible controller jack, matching audio and microphone plugs to a PC, or the headset’s specified USB receiver and mode. Then select and test audio output and microphone input separately; hearing game sound does not confirm that chat works.
How do I connect a wired headset to a controller?
- Check both ends. Confirm that the headset has a 3.5 mm plug and the controller has a compatible headset jack. Plug the headset in firmly. Logitech describes connecting its console/PC cable to a controller, and Corsair documents the same route for compatible console headsets; compatibility depends on the specific headset and controller. Logitech’s PRO headset instructions and Corsair’s console compatibility guide provide model-specific examples.
- Choose headset output on the console. If sound does not move to the headset automatically, open the console’s audio or accessory settings and select the headset. Adjust game/chat levels if those controls are available. Xbox documents a headset chat mixer for supported use in its headset support and product information.
- Test the microphone on its own. Check the headset’s mute switch and the console’s input or chat settings. A controller jack does not guarantee microphone support on every device.
How do I connect a wired headset to a PC?
Match the connector to the computer’s ports
First identify whether the headset uses one 3.5 mm combo plug, separate headphone and microphone plugs, or USB. Logitech’s PRO headset instructions show the PC route using separate 3.5 mm headphone and microphone plugs. Connect each plug to its matching port; if your computer has a single combo port but the headset has two plugs, check the headset and computer documentation for the appropriate splitter arrangement before buying an adapter. Port layouts vary, so a splitter is not automatically required.
After connecting, choose the headset as the PC’s audio output and microphone input, then test listening and speaking separately in system sound settings or the app you plan to use.
Using a DualSense controller’s headset jack on PC or Mac
If you want to plug the headset into a DualSense controller connected to a computer, connect the controller with a USB cable. Sony says the controller’s headset jack requires a wired connection with PC and Mac. On Windows, whether both speaker and microphone functions work can also depend on game support. How do I connect a wireless headset to a PC or console?
- Check the exact headset guide first. Confirm the headset supports your PC or console and whether it needs its supplied USB receiver. A USB port alone does not establish that a receiver will work with a device. Logitech documents receiver support for specific G933 and G935 combinations, while Sony’s INZONE guide specifies the required transceiver setting for PC or PS5.
- Connect the receiver and set its mode. Insert it into the port specified by the headset guide, then set any switch to the position for your device. For INZONE H9/H7 pairing trouble, Sony instructs users to hold the transceiver’s connect button for about five seconds or longer. Follow the Sony INZONE H9/H7 connection guide for the exact setup.
- Select output and input on the device. Choose the headset for audio playback and microphone input in the console or computer settings. Some functions can depend on using the receiver: Logitech notes that some G933 features are unavailable without its USB adapter. Refer to Logitech’s G933 connection instructions or the guide for your own model.
- Treat Bluetooth as a separate compatibility check. Bluetooth support in a headset does not mean a console supports that headset for game audio and chat. Verify the specific headset-and-console combination with the manufacturers; for example, consult Audeze’s console connection guidance and your console’s support pages.
Why can I hear game audio but my mic does not work?
Listening and microphone input are separate functions. Check the headset mute control, select the correct input device, and confirm the game or chat app has permission to use the microphone. Also verify that the connection route carries mic input—not just audio output. Corsair specifically notes that Nintendo Switch’s 3.5 mm audio port does not support a microphone, so a headset connected through that port may play game sound without providing voice input. Before changing a connection or buying an adapter or replacement headset, compare the device and controller, connection type, available PC ports, microphone support, and any features that depend on a receiver. Manufacturer compatibility pages are the best check for a particular model and platform.
