There is no officially established best team for every stage in Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance. Build around the stage’s enemies and map: choose two heroes with different useful strengths, then use towers to cover the threats or lanes they leave exposed. Adjust the plan for Campaign, Heroic, or Iron mode and for your installed game version.
What makes a team balanced?
Alliance lets you control two heroes at once and build from a broad tower roster. Ironhide says some heroes suit particular tasks better than others and encourages players to mix and match. That supports a practical approach: balance means covering the problems on the current stage, not assembling a universally optimal lineup.
The official presskit describes 34 upgradeable characters, 18 towers with special skills, 16 heroes—with two used in each stage—25 campaign stages, three modes, more than 45 enemy types, four enemy races, and five boss fights. These are presskit snapshot counts, not a guarantee of the current total after later add-ons.
How to choose your heroes and towers
- Read the stage. Consider the enemy mix, path layout, and available build sites before committing to a pair or tower plan. Ironhide’s official walkthrough index is organized by stage and includes Campaign, Heroic, and Iron mode guides: Kingdom Rush Alliance official site.
- Give each hero a distinct job. Look for a pair whose strengths complement one another rather than overlap while leaving a clear task uncovered. This is a decision method based on Ironhide’s comments about heroes’ different task strengths; the developer has not published a universal pair ranking.
- Let towers fill the gaps. Choose towers in response to the stage’s threats and the positions your heroes can cover. The official roster includes Surge Colossus, Bog Hermit, Twilight Longbows, Royal Archers, Paladin Covenant, Arcane Wizard, Tricannon, Arborean Emissary, Demon Pit, Ballista Outpost, Dwarven Flamespitter, Rocket Gunners, Elven Stargazers, Necromancer, Battle Brewmasters, Dune Sentinels, Grim Wraiths, and Eldritch Channeler. Treat these as options, not a required build order; official materials do not prescribe a fixed tower mix.
- Use both hero abilities with intent. Ironhide explains that two heroes give players access to two hero abilities and replace Rain of Fire. Position and time those abilities for pressure points, assigning each hero the threats that fit their role.
- Reassess for the mode and build. The right answer can change between Campaign, Heroic, and Iron. Balance updates also matter: consult official update notes before relying on a specific unit’s old strengths or declaring it best.
Compare candidate teams with five checks
- Role overlap: Do the heroes contribute different useful things?
- Threat coverage: Can the pair and towers answer the enemies that matter on this stage?
- Map coverage: Can they reach or support the lanes and build locations that need attention?
- Ability timing: Do the two abilities give you useful responses at different pressure moments?
- Mode and version: Is the plan appropriate for the selected mode and the game build you are playing?
These checks are a practical comparison framework, not official ratings or a claim that any particular pairing has been tested.

Why advice can change over time
Ironhide’s February 11, 2025 balance patch reports changes to towers and heroes, including Dwarven Flamespitter, Battle Brewmasters, Necromancer, and Elven Stargazer. Its March 12, 2026 Dragon Wars Balance Improvements lists build 7.00.60 for Steam and 7.00.62 for iOS, Android, macOS, and Apple Arcade. Those are the versions named in that update, not a guarantee that they are still the newest builds on October 7, 2026. Check the notes for your platform when using exact balance advice.
The roster has also grown beyond the original snapshot: the official site lists add-ons including Colossal Dwarfare, Wukong’s Journey, and Dragon Wars. Counts from the 2024 presskit should therefore be read as a dated snapshot rather than a complete current inventory.

When to use an official stage guide
If a general team-building approach does not resolve a difficult stage, use Ironhide’s walkthroughs for that specific stage and mode. A stage-specific guide is more relevant than a generic “best team” claim because the enemy mix, map, and challenge rules determine which gaps your heroes and towers need to cover.
