Yes. Display glasses can work with many laptops, phones, and game consoles, but the connection depends on the video output of the specific device and the requirements of the glasses. A USB-C port alone does not guarantee compatibility: direct connection usually requires USB-C DisplayPort (DP) Alt Mode or a supported Thunderbolt video connection. HDMI- or DisplayPort-only devices generally need a compatible adapter or dock.
Check the video connection before plugging in
For a direct USB-C connection, the source device must send video through that port, and the glasses must support that connection. XREAL says a USB-C port that handles only charging and data cannot directly output video to its glasses. Check the specifications for your exact laptop or phone model and then confirm the glasses maker’s compatibility instructions.
If the source only outputs HDMI or DisplayPort, you will generally need a compatible adapter or dock that converts the source’s signal for the glasses. A generic USB-C-to-HDMI cable should not be assumed to perform this conversion: the manufacturers document specific accessories for their products, not universal cross-brand compatibility. Using display glasses with a laptop
USB-C or Thunderbolt video
A laptop can often connect directly if its USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode or if it has a Thunderbolt connection supported by the glasses. ASUS says the ROG XREAL R1 can connect directly to a laptop with Thunderbolt 4 or USB-C video output over DP Alt Mode. Confirm video support for the laptop’s exact port; the connector’s shape does not establish that it carries video.

HDMI or DisplayPort output
If the laptop has HDMI or DisplayPort video output but no suitable direct USB-C video connection, use an adapter or dock explicitly supported for the glasses. For example, ASUS describes the ROG Control Base as accepting HDMI or DisplayPort input and sending the signal to the glasses. VITURE lists HDMI laptops among the sources for its HDMI XR Adapter. Verify the precise glasses-and-accessory pairing before buying.
Using display glasses with a phone
USB-C phones
A phone needs video output over USB-C for a direct connection, and the glasses must support that phone. ASUS states that the smartphone’s USB-C port must support DP output. The ROG XREAL R1 guide names iPhone 15 and 16 series and Android phones supporting DP Alt Mode as examples; VITURE’s USB-C XR Adapter Ultra also supports devices with DisplayPort over USB-C. These examples do not establish compatibility with every glasses model or feature: check the exact phone, glasses, and adapter combination.

VITURE lists iPhone 15 and later for certain app features with its adapter, while excluding iPhone 16e and iPhone Air from compatibility with VITURE XR glasses. Phone generation alone may therefore not determine whether a particular feature or accessory works.
Older Lightning iPhones
VITURE documents a route for older Lightning iPhones using its HDMI XR Adapter together with Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter. VITURE warns that third-party Lightning adapters may not work with its HDMI XR Adapter. Its guidance excludes The Beast glasses and describes only partial HDMI adapter support for Luma Ultra, so check the applicable model-specific instructions before relying on this route.

Using display glasses with a game console
PlayStation and Xbox
For HDMI consoles, use a glasses-compatible HDMI adapter or a maker’s dock or control base. ASUS routes PS5 and Xbox Series X/S through the ROG Control Dock. VITURE lists its HDMI XR Adapter for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, while noting that support differs by glasses model. Those examples describe named manufacturer accessories; they do not mean every adapter works with every pair of glasses.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
Switch connections are product-specific. The ROG XREAL R1 instructions route Nintendo Switch through the ROG Control Dock. VITURE lists Switch for its USB-C XR Adapter and Switch 2 for its newer Adapter Ultra. Follow the instructions for the exact glasses and accessory rather than assuming the consoles use the same connection path.

What to verify when choosing a connection
- Video output: Is the source using USB-C DP Alt Mode or a supported Thunderbolt video path, or does it output HDMI or DisplayPort?
- Required accessory: Can the glasses connect directly, or does the manufacturer specify an adapter, dock, or control base?
- Exact compatibility: Does the accessory support both your source device and your glasses model? Check exclusions and model-specific limits.
- Power and charging: Determine how the glasses and any adapter are powered and whether the setup can charge the source. XREAL notes that its glasses depend on the host or dock for power; VITURE documents phone power limitations that can cause blackouts in demanding display modes.
- Features and refresh rate: These can vary with the glasses, adapter, host capability, settings, and content. XREAL specifically notes that refresh rate depends on host output, settings, and content.
