Rhea Finance is the current evolution of Ref Finance and Burrow Finance, and its NEAR DEX uses pools with different fee tiers and liquidity models. Orderly is a different kind of venue: it provides orderbook infrastructure accessed through builder interfaces, including perpetual-futures products. To choose between them, check the exact market, route, fee, and executable quote for your trade size at the time you trade.
Which NEAR trading venues are being compared?
Rhea Finance: the current Ref Finance successor
Rhea Finance describes itself as the evolution of Ref Finance and Burrow Finance after a strategic merger and rebrand. For a current comparison, treat Rhea as the successor platform rather than counting Ref and Rhea as two separate current DEXs. Older names can still appear in contracts, software development kits (SDKs), and web addresses.
Rhea’s DEX is an automated market maker (AMM): trades use liquidity deposited in pools rather than matching a buyer’s order directly with a seller’s. Its documentation describes permissionless pool creation, including pools for token pairs that already exist, and lets pool creators set pool-level fees. That means the fee and available liquidity depend on the pool or route, not on one universal Rhea rate.
Orderly: orderbook infrastructure accessed through builders
Orderly is not simply another AMM pool or a single retail exchange interface. It describes its product as orderbook-based trading infrastructure and a liquidity layer. People use it through builder interfaces, which may offer different products and markets. Orderly also supports perpetual-futures orderbooks; a futures market should not be treated as equivalent to a NEAR spot swap.

How Rhea and Orderly differ
| What to compare | Rhea Finance | Orderly |
|---|---|---|
| Trading model | AMM pools, including stable pools and discretized concentrated-liquidity (DCL) pools | Orderbook infrastructure; accessed through builder interfaces |
| Products relevant to NEAR | NEAR-token swaps through the available pools and routes | Markets depend on the builder; Orderly’s SDK includes SPOT_NEAR_USDC as an example symbol, but that example does not establish current availability |
| Fee basis | Fee tier varies by pool and can be set by the pool creator; inspect the fee for the actual route | Each broker or builder sets its own fee rates; check that interface’s schedule |
| Liquidity evidence to inspect | Pool and route information, including the quote and the liquidity available for the trade | Orderbook depth for the selected market; the aggregate dashboard is not NEAR spot-pair depth |
| Token or market verification | Check the live selector and the actual route; SDK metadata is not a complete tradable-token list | Check the selected builder’s live market list; an SDK example is not proof that a market is currently available there |
These are different execution models, so their fee figures and liquidity indicators are not automatically comparable. In particular, a spot-swap pool fee is not the same thing as a builder’s orderbook trading fee or a perpetual’s funding cost.

How to check supported NEAR tokens and pairs
A token appearing in metadata does not prove that it has a direct, liquid market. Tradability depends on the token’s network and contract, the interface’s current listings, and whether a direct pair or usable route exists. Rhea’s current site has displayed NEAR pairs such as NEAR/USDC and NEAR/USDt, but listings can change. Treat these as examples to verify, not as a guaranteed current list.
- Identify the exact asset. Confirm the network and token contract, not just the ticker. Similar tickers can refer to different assets.
- Check the venue’s current selector or market list. On Rhea, look for the asset in the live swap interface. For Orderly, check the specific builder interface you intend to use. Do not assume every builder exposes every Orderly market.
- Confirm the actual pair or route. A direct pair and a routed trade can have different fees and execution. Before swapping, review the route, rate, and fee information shown by the interface.
- Check the quote for your intended amount. A market being listed does not establish that it can fill your trade at an acceptable price.
The Ref SDK documents a token-metadata function that can help an integration populate a selector. That is useful for software developers, but it is not a complete public list of currently liquid markets.

How Rhea pool types affect fees and liquidity
AMM pools and stable pools
In a standard AMM pool, a trade changes the pool’s token balance and therefore its price. Larger trades relative to available liquidity generally move the price more. Rhea’s documentation also describes stable pools designed for assets that are strongly correlated. A pool’s label alone does not guarantee a low-cost execution: check the live quote and fee for the exact trade.
Concentrated liquidity
Rhea’s DCL pools let liquidity providers place liquidity within a selected price range. This can make liquidity more concentrated near the current price, but the depth available to a trade depends on the chosen ranges and where the market price is. It is not safe to infer execution quality from the pool type without checking the pool’s current state.

Smart routing and slippage bounds
Rhea says its smart routing considers pool status, liquidity depth, and fee configuration to select or combine routes. Its swap documentation describes controls for setting a minimum output or maximum input to limit slippage, as well as requests for a fixed output amount. These settings bound the outcome you are willing to accept; they do not guarantee a particular price or that a transaction will execute.

Liquidity is specific to the asset pair, trade direction, trade size, and time. Total value locked (TVL) can indicate how much value is deposited in a pool, but it does not show how much of that value is available near the execution price. Orderly’s dashboard reports aggregate protocol activity and TVL; those broad figures cannot be compared directly with the depth of one Rhea NEAR pool.

- Choose one exact pair and trade direction. Compare the same input asset and output asset on each venue. Verify the token contracts and network first.
- Use the same input amount and check at nearly the same time. Prices and available liquidity move. Record the time if you plan to quote figures in a comparison.
- Compare executable output and price impact. On Rhea, inspect the quote and route across the pools used. On an orderbook market, inspect bids or asks around the price and the amount available at those levels. A top-of-book price alone may not represent the cost of filling a larger order.
- Include the costs that apply to that product. For a Rhea swap, check the pool or route fee and any applicable transaction costs shown by the interface. For Orderly, check the builder’s fee schedule; for perpetuals, account separately for funding and other product-specific costs.
- Use the quote, not a headline ranking. Compare the amount you would actually receive or pay after the displayed costs, and confirm it falls within your acceptable slippage or price limit.
Without matched, same-time quotes and depth for a defined pair and trade size, the available metrics do not establish a stable liquidity winner between Rhea and Orderly.
Which venue fits which kind of trade?
Choose a Rhea route when you want a NEAR-token swap
Rhea is the relevant option in this comparison for checking AMM swaps across NEAR pools. The practical choice is not simply “Rhea or Ref”: check the live pool, route, fee tier, token identity, and quote. If a pool’s liquidity is concentrated in a price range, the trade’s size and the current price matter to the depth available.
Consider an Orderly-powered builder for an available orderbook market
Orderly is relevant if the builder you use offers the market and orderbook product you want. Verify the market and fees in that interface rather than relying on an SDK example or protocol-wide dashboard. If you are considering perpetual futures, treat that as a leveraged derivatives product, not a substitute for an ordinary spot swap: collateral, funding, and liquidation mechanics can apply.
