What changed in Reloaded?
It is available on more current platforms
Ultimate Edition was presented in 2015 as an Xbox One remaster, with Xbox also announcing a Windows 10 version. Reloaded launched on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Those are the platforms named in Xbox’s release announcement; availability on a particular store or service can depend on region and subscription status.

Its technical targets are higher
Xbox lists Reloaded with 4K resolution, a 60 FPS campaign, multiplayer at up to 120 FPS, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, 7.1 spatial audio, and variable refresh rate support. The publisher also cites 4K assets, remastered textures, improved shadows and reflections, enhanced post-processing, improved anti-aliasing, and no campaign loading screens. These are advertised specifications and features, not a guarantee that every device will deliver every mode: compatible hardware and displays matter. The Xbox Store listing notes capable-display requirements for 4K, HDR, and high frame rates.
For context, Ultimate Edition’s 2015 Xbox One launch coverage described a 1080p remaster and 60 FPS multiplayer. The figures refer to the editions’ published capabilities at their respective launch periods, not to a like-for-like independent test.

The campaign is not a different story
Ultimate Edition expanded the original game with five campaign missions that had not previously been available on console. Reloaded carries forward Ultimate Edition’s full content range, including its bonus campaign act. There is no content-based reason in these announcements to choose Ultimate Edition over Reloaded for a different core story.
How do co-op and multiplayer differ?
Reloaded supports two-player campaign co-op and Versus matches for up to eight players. Xbox says cross-play works across platforms without requiring a Microsoft account. Signing in with a Microsoft account adds cross-progression for campaign and multiplayer, plus cross-platform invites. Xbox Wire’s announcement distinguishes those account-enabled features from cross-play itself.

Local co-op implementation is not identical everywhere: the Xbox Store says campaign split-screen is unavailable on PC and handhelds. On console, online multiplayer requires a separately sold Game Pass subscription tier that includes online multiplayer, according to the Store listing. Check the current listing for the platform and region you intend to use.
Can Ultimate Edition owners get Reloaded for free?
Xbox’s free-upgrade offer applied to buyers of the digital Ultimate Edition before 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025. It was a time-limited eligibility rule, not a standing upgrade entitlement. The announcement specifies digital purchases, so it does not establish eligibility for physical-copy owners or people who buy Ultimate Edition after the cutoff. If you believe an earlier digital purchase qualifies, check the Xbox account and library associated with that purchase.

Which edition should you choose?
- You are buying now: Choose Reloaded if you want the remaster on current Xbox platforms, PC, PS5, Steam, or cloud gaming. It includes Ultimate Edition’s content breadth.
- You already own Ultimate Edition digitally on Xbox: Check whether your purchase was made before the May 5, 2025, 16:00 UTC cutoff; only qualifying purchases were included in the announced free upgrade.
- You want to play with friends on other platforms: Reloaded offers cross-play. A Microsoft account is needed for cross-platform invites and cross-progression, but Xbox says it is not required for cross-play.
- You are comparing an Xbox One copy with a current release: The meaningful differences are platform generation and reach, technical features, online connectivity, and upgrade eligibility—not a different campaign.
Price and access notes
Xbox announced a $39.99 suggested retail price for Reloaded at launch and day-one access through PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. That is a historical launch price, not a current price quote; store pricing and subscription catalogs can change.
