Choose the Hasselblad X2D II 100C for a stills-focused workflow, Hasselblad’s in-camera HDR features, or high-speed flash with compatible XCD leaf-shutter lenses. Choose Fujifilm’s GFX100 II if you need video, faster bursts, or broader subject detection. Both are roughly 100MP cameras; the better fit depends more on what you shoot and the lenses and accessories your system requires than on resolution alone.

“X2D” can mean two different generations. This comparison focuses on the current-generation X2D II 100C and Fujifilm’s GFX100 II, with the GFX100S II as a related alternative. It is not a comparison of every medium-format system.

What are the main differences?

The Hasselblad X2D II 100C and Fujifilm GFX100 II are both high-resolution medium-format cameras, but they emphasize different kinds of work. Hasselblad presents the X2D II as a stills camera, with an internal SSD and an HDR still-image workflow. Fujifilm’s GFX100 II is the more versatile choice if your work includes video, faster continuous shooting, or tracking a range of recognized subjects.

Priority or feature Hasselblad X2D II 100C Fujifilm GFX100 II
Resolution 100MP; Hasselblad’s August 2025 launch announcement describes a BSI CMOS sensor. 102MP, according to Fujifilm.
Continuous shooting 3 fps, as listed by DPReview. Up to 8 fps with the mechanical shutter, according to Fujifilm.
Video No video recording mode, according to DPReview. Includes 8K and 4K modes, including 4K up to 60p, according to DPReview. It cautions that rolling shutter can be poor in the highest-resolution modes.
Stabilization Hasselblad rates it at 10 stops at the image center and 8 stops at the edges under a CIPA test using the XCD 3.5/120 Macro lens. Hasselblad says location synchronization through Phocus is needed for the strongest performance. Up to 8 stops, according to Fujifilm.
Flash synchronization Compatible XCD lenses have leaf shutters that support high-speed synchronization; the usable speed depends on the lens and setup. DPReview cites 1/125 sec synchronization with the camera’s focal-plane shutter.
Storage Hasselblad specifies a 1TB internal SSD and a CFexpress Type B slot. Not stated in the cited comparison sources.

These figures describe different things: the manufacturers’ stabilization ratings are not interchangeable promises of equal results in every situation, and shutter synchronization depends on the lens and flash setup. The practical distinction is that Hasselblad’s compatible leaf-shutter lenses can make high-speed flash work easier, while the GFX100 II combines a faster burst rate with video capability.

When is the Hasselblad X2D II the better fit?

Still photography with Hasselblad’s HDR workflow

The X2D II is the more natural fit if your work is primarily still photography and you want to use Hasselblad’s HNCS HDR workflow. Hasselblad says the camera supports HDR HEIF and Ultra HDR JPEG output, as well as 16-bit color depth, native ISO 50, and 15.3 stops of dynamic range. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Its 1TB internal SSD is another built-in feature that may suit photographers who want substantial onboard storage alongside a CFexpress Type B slot.

Flash work with compatible XCD lenses

For portraits, fashion, or other work where flash is central, the leaf shutter in compatible XCD lenses is an important system advantage. It enables high-speed flash synchronization beyond the 1/125 sec figure DPReview cites for the GFX100 II’s focal-plane shutter. The benefit depends on using a compatible lens and flash; it does not make every XCD lens or every lighting setup identical.

A deliberate, stills-first pace

At the 3 fps rate listed by DPReview, the X2D II is not the stronger choice for rapid action sequences. It is better suited to work where resolution and a considered stills workflow matter more than a high burst rate. Hasselblad introduced AF-C continuous autofocus with this generation, but DPReview reported that AF-C support was limited to seven faster-focusing XCD lenses at the time of its comparison. Check Hasselblad’s current lens compatibility information before choosing a body for moving subjects.

When should you choose the Fujifilm GFX100 II?

You need video as well as stills

The GFX100 II is the clear choice between these bodies if video is part of the job: the X2D II has no video mode, while DPReview describes the GFX100 II’s 8K and 4K options, including 4K up to 60p. DPReview also warns of poor rolling-shutter performance in the highest-resolution modes, so the presence of 8K does not by itself make it the right video camera for fast pans or rapidly moving subjects.

  • 50 MP Medium Format Sensor
  • Lightweight and Portable
  • 3.6" Rear Touch Screen

You photograph action or use subject detection

Fujifilm specifies bursts of up to 8 fps with the mechanical shutter. It also describes AI-based subject detection for people, animals, birds, vehicles, and transport categories. DPReview names examples including birds, trains, planes, motorcycles, and bicycles. These capabilities make the GFX100 II the more suitable option of the two for sequences that demand more frames or recognition of varied moving subjects; they do not guarantee a particular keeper rate.

You want one body for mixed assignments

Choose the GFX100 II if you regularly move between portrait, event, wildlife, and video work and value having a broader set of capture modes in one body. Its 102MP resolution remains in the same general class as the X2D II, so this flexibility does not mean giving up a similar headline pixel count.

Is the GFX100S II worth considering?

The Fujifilm GFX100S II is a related 102MP alternative for buyers comparing a similar resolution tier with the X2D II. DPReview lists a 44 × 33 mm sensor, up to 7 fps, and 8-stop IBIS for the GFX100S II. Its launch and review sources give different historical prices: Fujifilm’s 2024 launch release stated an expected MSRP of $4,995.95, while DPReview’s comparison lists a historical $5,499 MSRP. Neither figure establishes today’s local retail price, so compare current quotes for the body and the lenses you need.

How much should the camera system cost?

Compare the complete kit rather than the body alone. List the focal lengths you need, then price the matching native lenses, flash equipment, storage, and any video accessories. The systems differ in ways that can affect that total: compatible XCD leaf-shutter lenses enable high-speed flash synchronization, and Hasselblad’s XCD lenses may cost more; the GFX100 II offers video and a higher burst rate. The available pricing figures are not a like-for-like current market comparison.

Does “X2D” mean the original X2D 100C or the X2D II?

It can mean either, so confirm the generation before comparing specifications or prices. The original X2D 100C is a different camera: Hasselblad’s product information describes 100MP, 294 PDAF zones, 7-stop five-axis IBIS, and a 1TB SSD. The X2D II adds AF-C and the newer stabilization and HDR features described above. Hasselblad’s product page for the original displayed $8,199 when it was checked, but that page figure does not establish current inventory or market value.
