Capcom’s reported RE:2026 presentation was about AI-related tools for developing games, not confirmation that AI-generated assets will appear in finished games. In a separate February 2026 investor-session summary, Capcom said it would not incorporate AI-generated assets into game content while exploring AI to improve development efficiency. Those are distinct statements, and the conference details available in current reporting have not been verified against an official transcript or slide deck.
What Capcom said about AI and RE ENGINE
Capcom’s position is best understood as a distinction between using AI during development and putting AI-generated material into a released game. Reports from Capcom Open Conference RE:2026 describe tools intended to support development workflows. Separately, PC Gamer reported that a February 16, 2026 investor-session summary said Capcom would not incorporate assets generated by AI into game content, while intending to use the technology to improve efficiency and productivity in development.
The investor-session statement is not a complete policy for every possible use of AI. It does not, for example, explain how Capcom would classify a concept generated with AI and then substantially revised by an artist. Nor does the available reporting establish that AI-generated assets are present in any particular Capcom game.
What the RE:2026 conference reports describe
PC Gamer reported that programmer Satoshi Ishida discussed the future of RE ENGINE through REX at the October 2, 2026 conference. The report describes AI-related systems for data handling, optimizing development tools, group animation and runtime work, and making it easier to implement game-mechanic ideas. These descriptions concern development processes; they do not establish that the tools generate final game assets.

Kotaku’s October 5 account describes five REX goals, names RE:Dox and RE:Log, and reports that tools could let AI agents test builds, record issues, find bugs, and suggest fixes for a human developer to apply. Kotaku attributes the conference statement “AI is not a replacement for humans” to Capcom, without identifying an individual speaker for that sentence.
The reports differ in how they count and name the tools: PC Gamer describes six programs, while Kotaku describes five goals and focuses on two tools. Without an official presentation or transcript to resolve the difference, a definitive tool count is not established.

Development assistance versus assets in game content
| Question | Development-process assistance | Assets incorporated into game content |
|---|---|---|
| Where is AI used? | In reported workflows such as testing, logging issues, and improving development tools; conference specifics come from PC Gamer and Kotaku’s reporting. | In material incorporated into a released game; PC Gamer reported Capcom’s February 2026 investor-session position on this use. |
| What is the stated purpose or position? | Capcom’s official investor-relations dialogue says it has used AI in RE ENGINE and quality-control bug checks, and is studying potential uses in development. | According to PC Gamer’s account of the investor-session summary, Capcom said it would not incorporate AI-generated assets into game content. |
| Who applies or reviews the result? | Kotaku reports that an AI agent could suggest fixes for a human developer to apply. That is a secondary report about the conference tools, not an independently verified workflow. | The available statement does not specify how Capcom would treat AI-assisted material that a person later revises. |
The distinction matters: an AI system that flags a bug or proposes a change to a developer is not the same thing as an AI-generated image, sound, or other asset appearing in a game. Capcom’s reported content position addresses the latter, while the RE:2026 coverage describes the former kind of development support.
REX is an evolution of RE ENGINE, not a wholesale replacement
Capcom’s 2025 integrated report describes REX, or RE neXt Engine, as a next-generation effort to evolve its in-house RE ENGINE. The company says it plans to integrate new technologies over time rather than replace RE ENGINE completely: “Rather than completely replacing RE ENGINE, we plan to evolve it step by step, integrating new technologies in line with trends in IT.” The report describes RE ENGINE as supporting in-house game development across genres.

Capcom’s 2025 report says the department responsible for RE ENGINE had approximately 200 engineers, including around 160 focused on engine development. That is company-reported staffing context, not a measure of REX’s delivery schedule or the number of people building any specific AI tool.
What Capcom has previously said about AI
On its official investor-relations dialogue page, Capcom says it already uses AI in RE ENGINE and for quality-control bug checks. The company also says it continues to consider generative AI applications across development processes. It identifies copyright infringement and data security as concerns, alongside the need to train or secure specialist personnel.

Those comments add context to the reported RE:2026 tools: AI use in development is not entirely new for Capcom, but the company has also identified practical and legal concerns. The official dialogue does not specify which generative-AI systems are used, how they are trained, or whether any particular game uses AI-generated content.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What remains unconfirmed
- The exact inventory and number of RE:2026 tools: current reports describe them differently.
- The full technical scope of the conference presentation: the cited reports provide summaries, not an official transcript or complete slide deck.
- A launch timeline for REX or any specific AI-related tool.
- A comprehensive boundary for what Capcom considers an AI-generated asset, including AI-assisted work later edited by people.
- Use of AI-generated assets in any named Capcom game.
Accordingly, the clearest reading is limited but useful: Capcom is pursuing AI-related development assistance as part of the evolution of RE ENGINE, while its separately reported investor-session position rejects incorporating AI-generated assets into game content. The conference coverage does not overturn or expand that position into a more detailed public policy.
