Find the picture settings
Press the remote’s Quick Settings button, open Settings → Display & Sound, then follow the picture path shown on your TV. Depending on the menu, it may be Picture & Sound → Picture or simply Picture. Sony says you can adjust settings while content is playing and use the on-screen descriptions to understand controls. Menu wording and availability can vary with software, region, input, and model variant, so use the options displayed by your TV as the guide.
Sony identifies the US 55-inch K-55XR80M2 as BRAVIA 8 II (XR80); Sony also provides support pages for the 65-inch model. Its model-specific Help Guide is listed as released October 5, 2025. Sony’s 2025 BRAVIA picture-mode overview applies to the K-55XR80M2 support page, but its page does not expose the video’s detailed mode recommendations. The control descriptions below are Sony’s general Google TV guidance, not a guarantee that every option appears on every BRAVIA 8 II. Choose a picture mode for the content
Sony’s general descriptions make picture mode a useful first adjustment, not a universal verdict about the best-looking image. Available modes vary by model.

| Mode | Sony’s general description | When to try it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Suitable for everyday home use. | Start here for general viewing, then decide whether the picture suits your room and taste. |
| Cinema | Suitable for watching movies at home. | Compare it with your usual mode using a film you know well. |
| Professional | Preserves original content quality and allows customization. | Try it if you want a mode oriented toward the original image and want to customize settings. |
| Game | Minimizes input delay. | Use it for gaming when responsive controls matter. |
Compare modes using the same scene, input, room lighting, and viewing distance. Judge whether the image looks right to you, remains visible in your room, and avoids processing effects you dislike. These are practical comparisons, not measured calibration results.
Decide whether automatic room and content adjustments suit you
Auto Picture Mode
Sony says Auto Picture Mode can change the picture mode according to content, and that it works only with an HDMI input. If a mode changes unexpectedly while you watch HDMI content, check whether this option is enabled. Sony’s description is: “When Auto Picture Mode is set to On, the Picture mode will change automatically according to the content.” Sony picture settings guide
Light sensor
Sony describes the Light sensor as adjusting picture quality to ambient light; in a dark environment it can make the screen darker. Leave it on if that automatic response fits how you watch. If you prefer the image not to shift with room lighting, compare the picture with the sensor off.
Adjust brightness and color cautiously
Sony’s general settings guide distinguishes several controls that affect different parts of the picture: screen luminance, gamma, HDR tone mapping, black level, and contrast. Change one control at a time while watching familiar content so you can tell what it changes. Pick the brightness that works for your room and preference rather than relying on a numeric recipe that Sony does not publish for every BRAVIA 8 II.

The guide also discusses preparing a room for optimal viewing, considering size, layout, seating distance, lighting, and acoustics.
Color temperature is a reference for image color reproduction, while Live Color expands vividness. If you want to compare color options, use the same scene and switch between settings rather than judging from memory. Avoid casually changing advanced white balance or multi-point color controls: Sony says typical users do not need to adjust them, and multi-point adjustment requires professional calibration tools. The labels, values, and availability in Sony’s general guide are not guaranteed to match every BRAVIA 8 II menu. Sony picture settings guide
Use clarity and noise controls only when they help
Sony describes Sharpness as emphasizing edges and detail, and gives 50 as the reference value in its general Google TV guidance. That is not a BRAVIA 8 II calibration result or a guarantee that the same reference appears in every menu. Reality Creation adds detail enhancement and noise reduction; Sony also describes separate random and digital noise reduction, plus smooth gradation.
Evaluate these options on the material that might benefit from them, such as noisy or lower-quality video. Keep a change only if it improves that material without making the picture look worse to you. Sony’s guidance does not establish a universal processing recipe for this model.
Choose motion processing by watching the result
Sony describes Motionflow as adjusting Smoothness and Clearness and increasing the number of frames displayed to make movement smoother. Film Mode/CineMotion is described as reproducing film content, such as movies shot at 24 frames per second. They address different aspects of motion, and available controls or behavior may vary by model.

Compare the options with both a film and faster-moving content. Keep the processing only if you prefer the motion it produces; the choice is subjective, and Sony’s general control descriptions do not specify a universal setting for the BRAVIA 8 II.

Sony’s instructions identify Studio Calibrated mode with Netflix, Prime Video, and Sony Pictures Core. Sony says it is “designed to faithfully reproduce content as the creator intended and can be set according to your viewing preferences.” The streaming picture may look different from broadcasts and other video while the mode is active. To choose another Picture mode setting, turn Studio Calibrated mode off; Sony explicitly says, “Turn off Studio Calibrated mode if you want to select other Picture mode settings.” Sony Studio Calibrated mode instructions
Reduce OLED image-retention risk
Sony advises avoiding static images with bright colors, clocks, or logos. Its OLED guidance also identifies Ambient light sensor, Light sensor, Light and Color sensor, and Peak Luminance among settings to check when managing screen brightness. Sony recommends Standard for home use and programs that display station logos as part of this guidance. These are risk-reduction recommendations, not a guarantee that image retention cannot occur.
