Yes—the 2025 Sony BRAVIA 8 II (XR80M2) supports key HDMI 2.1 gaming features, including 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM. But only HDMI 3 and HDMI 4 are listed for 4K 100p/120p, so plan around those two ports if you use a console or PC alongside an eARC soundbar. The details below are based primarily on Sony’s US model information; check the support page for your exact regional model before connecting equipment.

Does the Sony BRAVIA 8 II have HDMI 2.1?

Yes. Sony lists 4K/120Hz, eARC, VRR, and ALLM among the set’s HDMI 2.1 features, and its specifications also list SBTM. The TV has four HDMI inputs in total, but that does not mean all four accept every high-bandwidth gaming signal. Sony’s port table lists 4K 100p/120p support on HDMI 3 and HDMI 4; all four ports support HDR and the lower-frame-rate enhanced 4K modes shown in that table. Sony’s 2025 HDMI feature table and its HDMI terminal function table provide the feature and port details.

Which HDMI ports support 4K/120Hz?

Use HDMI 3 or HDMI 4 for a 4K/120Hz console or PC. Sony’s US support table identifies those two inputs for 4K 100p/120p; it does not list that mode for HDMI 1 or HDMI 2. Sony’s product page describes two full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 inputs, with eARC supported on one of them. Confirm the labels and functions against the manual for your exact regional SKU, since port layouts and specifications can vary by model or market.

Can you use 4K/120Hz and eARC at the same time?

Yes, but the port assignments matter. Connect the eARC soundbar to the TV’s eARC-capable input, then connect a 4K/120Hz source to the other high-frame-rate input. Because eARC uses one of the two inputs Sony lists for 4K 100p/120p, this leaves one such TV input for a direct high-frame-rate source. If you have multiple consoles or a PC as well as an eARC soundbar, check whether your receiver or HDMI switch passes through the video features and audio formats you need—including 4K/120Hz, VRR, HDR, and eARC—before relying on it.

What gaming features does the BRAVIA 8 II support?

  • 4K/120Hz: Sony lists support on HDMI 3 and HDMI 4.
  • VRR and ALLM: Both appear in Sony’s HDMI feature information.
  • SBTM: Sony includes this in the model specifications.
  • PS5 features: Sony advertises Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode, and lists PS Remote Play and Game Menu 2. Sony’s BRAVIA 8 II product FAQ describes these features.

TechRadar reports that its tested BRAVIA 8 II automatically switched to Game picture mode and applied HDR tone mapping when it detected a PS5. The publication measured Game Mode input lag at 16.3 ms using a Leo Bodnar 4K meter. That is one reviewer’s result under its test conditions, not a guaranteed figure for every game, setting, firmware version, or input signal. TechRadar also reports Dolby Vision gaming support alongside VRR and ALLM in its BRAVIA 8 II review.

What HDMI cable do you need for 4K/120Hz?

Use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable when your source device requires one for 4K 100p/120p. Sony notes that some high-frame-rate devices need this cable type. Check the source device’s requirements and look for the cable’s Ultra High Speed certification rather than assuming that an older cable will carry every supported signal.

How should you plan a console, PC, and soundbar setup?

  1. Check the labels on the TV and your regional manual to identify the eARC input and the inputs that accept 4K 100p/120p.
  2. Connect an eARC soundbar to the TV’s eARC-capable HDMI input.
  3. Connect your 4K/120Hz console or PC to the other port Sony lists for 4K 100p/120p: HDMI 3 or HDMI 4.
  4. If the source reports limited video modes, check the TV’s input-signal format setting and the source’s output settings; select the appropriate enhanced format if available.
  5. For more than one high-frame-rate source, assess a receiver or switch by its published support for the exact video, VRR, HDR, and audio formats you intend to use.
