There is no single best preset for every player. On PC, start with a graphics quality preset, then tune resolution scaling, frame-rate behavior, and image processing to match your hardware and display. On Xbox Series X|S, check the in-game Video and Accessibility menus: official guidance confirms the platform and notes that some options vary, but does not establish specific Xbox graphics modes, resolutions, or frame rates.

Best PC graphics settings: start with a preset, then tune

Halo: Campaign Evolved provides eight individual graphics quality options. Use a quality preset as a starting point, then adjust individual options or resolution scale to find a balance between image detail and performance. The right setting depends on your PC’s available performance headroom and the display you use. Halo Support’s PC graphics options guide documents resolution scaling and Minimum Frame Rate controls.

Resolution scale

Resolution scale ranges from 50% to 200% of your display resolution in 10% increments. Lowering it can improve frame rate when the system is not CPU-limited, but reduces image detail. Raising it above 100% can improve sharpness, at a potentially substantial performance cost. If a game is CPU-limited, reducing render resolution may not meaningfully improve frame rate.

Minimum Frame Rate

Minimum Frame Rate offers targets from 30 to 240 FPS in 30-FPS increments. When enabled, the game dynamically lowers or raises internal resolution to try to maintain the selected target. That can help keep performance steadier in demanding scenes, but image quality may shift as the resolution changes. A target your PC cannot sustain can make those changes more noticeable.

Use this control when smoother performance matters more than a consistently sharp image. If image consistency is the priority, set Minimum Frame Rate to None and manage performance with your graphics quality and resolution scale instead.

Choose upscaling for the image you want

Upscaling options differ in availability and behavior; they are not interchangeable on every PC or storefront. Halo Support recommends Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) with Minimum Frame Rate set to None for the least altered image. TSR uses temporal information, and this configuration behaves similarly to TAA without dynamic resolution. Raising render scale above 100% can further improve fidelity and sharpness, but uses more GPU performance. Halo Support’s PC technology guide describes the available techniques.

Native quality versus Upscaling Technique None

These settings are different. Native quality removes resolution upscaling while retaining image reconstruction, anti-aliasing, and other processing. An August 17, 2026 patch added an Upscaling Technique option named None, which disables upscaling and anti-aliasing completely. Choose based on the image treatment you want, rather than assuming that “Native” turns off all processing. The distinction is documented in the August 17, 2026 patch notes for build 2026.08.11.1121610.

FSR, XeSS, and TSR availability

  • FSR 3: Available across hardware. FSR 4 is automatically enabled for supported AMD RDNA 4 / RX 9000 graphics cards.
  • XeSS: Available across hardware, but may provide limited performance gains on non-Intel hardware. It is available only in the Steam version.
  • TSR: Described by Halo Support as universally compatible. It does not support frame generation.

Frame generation is available only when supported by both the hardware and the selected upscaling technique. Do not assume a feature shown in one setup will appear on another.

Balance smoothness, latency, and screen tearing

Frame-rate and sync choices involve trade-offs. Minimum Frame Rate dynamically changes internal resolution to pursue a target; frame generation depends on hardware and upscaler support; and VSync can reduce tearing but may add input delay and cap frame rate.

  • For steadier performance: Set a realistic Minimum Frame Rate target, or use a frame-rate limit. A limit can reduce processor load, power use, and heat while improving frame pacing.
  • For lower tearing: Enable VSync. It may add input delay and cap frame rate.
  • For responsiveness: Disabling VSync can allow higher frame rates and lower delay, but tearing may occur.
  • For hardware-specific latency reduction: Vendor Specific low-latency mode automatically selects NVIDIA Reflex, AMD Anti-Lag, or Intel Xe Low Latency according to the PC’s hardware.
  • For GPU-bound performance: Try async compute; it may help in GPU-bound cases, but can slightly hurt in CPU-bound cases.

Change one setting at a time and compare how the game feels in the same kind of scene. That makes it easier to tell whether a change improved performance, clarity, or responsiveness for your system.

Accessibility settings for comfort and readability

Halo Support documents a broad set of options for motion, visual effects, text, color, narration, and the HUD. Some settings may only be available on certain platforms, so check the Accessibility and Video menus in your own game.

Personalize controller or mouse-and-keyboard controls

There is no source-backed universal sensitivity value. Adjust controls for your input method and comfort, changing one setting at a time rather than copying a number intended for someone else’s setup.

Controller

Controller options include button layouts and bindings, stick layouts and inversion, horizontal and vertical sensitivity, dead zones, look acceleration, auto-look centering, vibration, and trigger effects.

Mouse and keyboard

Mouse-and-keyboard players can customize single and double bindings, horizontal and vertical sensitivity, mouse smoothing, and mouse acceleration parameters.

Do modifiers affect achievements?

The game has four customizable modifier presets. Halo Support warns that using any difficulty modifier preset prevents certain achievements and trophies. To earn all of them, select None, and make sure every fireteam member has presets turned off. This warning concerns gameplay modifier presets; the documented guidance does not say that ordinary accessibility options such as subtitles or narration disable achievements. Halo Support’s difficulty modifier guidance explains the restriction.

What Xbox players should know

Halo Waypoint lists Xbox Series X|S as a supported platform. The official accessibility guide says some options are platform-specific, so look in the in-game Video and Accessibility menus for the controls available on your console. The official material cited here does not establish Xbox graphics presets, resolution targets, or frame-rate modes; PC guidance about upscalers, resolution scale, and PC-specific latency features should not be treated as confirmed Xbox settings. Halo Waypoint identifies the supported platform, and Halo Support’s accessibility guide describes platform-dependent options.
