Yes—but only if the mini PC’s graphics, memory, and upgrade options suit the games and performance you want. “Mini PC” describes a small form factor, not a gaming-performance class. A compact computer with integrated graphics should not be assumed to match a desktop with a capable discrete graphics card.

What determines whether a mini PC is good for gaming?

Start with the exact games you play and the resolution and graphics settings you expect to use. A system that handles lighter or older games may not deliver the experience you want in demanding new releases. There is no reliable blanket claim that a particular mini PC “runs everything.”

Then identify the exact graphics hardware. For example, the MINISFORUM UM880 Plus pairs a Ryzen 7 8845HS processor with Radeon 780M integrated graphics. The processor name alone does not establish gaming performance; the graphics configuration and the game workload matter.

  • Games: Make a list of the titles you actually play, including any demanding new releases.
  • Resolution and settings: Choose a target, such as 1080p at a specific quality level, before comparing performance claims.
  • Graphics: Check whether the GPU is integrated or discrete and note its exact model.
  • Memory: Verify the amount, speed, channel configuration, and whether the memory is upgradeable.

Why memory configuration matters

Integrated graphics use system memory, so the installed memory configuration can affect graphics performance. In its review of the Radeon 780M Chuwi AuBox 8745, TechRadar reported that the system’s default single 16 GB memory module significantly affected GPU performance. That finding applies to the reviewed configuration; it does not establish results for every Radeon 780M mini PC.

It offers superior multitasking performance for demanding tasks like gaming and content creation, with energy-efficient power management at 35W TDP (upgradable to 70W)
  • 32GB DDR5 + 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD - GMKtec K11 mini computers comes with 32GB(dual-channel) DDR5 RAM at 5600 MT/s , which can be expanded to 128GB and 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 SSD supports dual PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD slots expanded up to 8TB, ensures lightning-fast read/write speeds
  • WHY CHOOSE DDR5 5600MHz DUAL CHANNEL (2×16GB) - With a 5600MHz clock—a 17% frequency uplift over 4800MHz—this kit delivers massive bandwidth gains that elevate real-world performance. Gamers enjoy higher minimum FPS and less stutter in open-world and sim titles for a smoother competitive experience. Video editors and 3D creators benefit from faster 4K/8K timeline scrubbing, quicker renders in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere, and swifter asset loading. For AI/LLM workloads, the superior throughput reduces I/O bottlenecks, cuts token generation latency, and accelerates model fine-tuning by keeping processing cores fed with data—so you wait less and create more.
  • Oculink Port - The Oculink port enables higher bandwidth capabilities, better frame rates and lower lag. The standard also operates at PCIe x4 speeds, compared to Thunderbolt's x3. Gamers and content creators can benefit from Oculink's higher bandwidth, resulting in better performance and lower lag for eGPU setups
  • 4-Screen 4K Display Support - K11 mini pc supports simultaneous 4K display output on 4 screens via HDMI 2.1 (4K@60Hz), DisplayPort 2.1 (4K@60Hz), and USB4 (up to 40Gb/s). Ideal for multitasking, it provides an immersive experience for professional work, gaming, and entertainment

Check the exact model’s memory slots and supported memory type. For instance, the manufacturer lists the Beelink SER8 with dual SO-DIMM DDR5 slots. That specification indicates a memory layout, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate. Confirm whether memory is included and how it is configured in the SKU you intend to buy.

What do current Radeon 780M mini PCs tell you?

These examples illustrate why specifications should be used to compare configurations, not treated as proof of desktop-equivalent gaming.

Model Listed configuration or feature What the listing does—and does not—establish
MINISFORUM UM880 Plus Ryzen 7 8845HS, Radeon 780M integrated graphics, DDR5 SO-DIMM memory, two M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD slots, and OCuLink support. The manufacturer says OCuLink supports connecting a discrete GPU. These are listed specifications, not an independent gaming benchmark. The product is offered in configurable and barebone versions, so check what the exact SKU includes.
Beelink SER8 Ryzen 7 8845HS, Radeon 780M integrated graphics, and dual SO-DIMM DDR5 memory slots. The manufacturer displays a test configuration of 32 GB DDR5-5600, a 1 TB SSD, and 1080p. The game labels and settings shown with its FPS claims are not clear enough to treat those figures as general performance guarantees.
Chuwi AuBox 8745 TechRadar reviewed a Radeon 780M system configured with a single 16 GB memory module. TechRadar reports benchmark results for its tested AuBox and a comparison system. Those results describe the named systems and tests, not mini PCs or desktops as a whole.

Can an external GPU make a mini PC a gaming replacement?

Some mini PCs offer a route to connect a discrete graphics card. MINISFORUM lists OCuLink support on the UM880 Plus for connecting a discrete GPU. This can expand the system’s graphics options, but the port alone does not prove desktop-equivalent performance, universal dock or GPU compatibility, or that the complete setup is good value.

Before choosing this route, check the compatibility requirements and price the whole setup: the mini PC, dock, GPU, power needs, and any other required parts. Compare that total with a desktop configured for the same games, resolution, and settings.

When is a mini PC a sensible substitute—and when is it not?

A mini PC may suit you if its graphics meet your expectations for your specific games and you value a compact system. It is a weaker fit if you want strong performance in demanding games or room to upgrade over time. Tom’s Guide notes that serious gaming benefits from a mini PC with a capable discrete GPU, while a conventional desktop offers better performance and upgrade headroom for serious gaming.

That is general buying guidance, not a controlled performance comparison between specific mini PCs and desktops. The sources do not establish a universal FPS advantage, equivalence, or savings figure. Compare particular systems at the same resolution and settings rather than inferring results from their size or processor labels.

Check the complete setup before you buy

  1. Write down your target: List your games, target resolution, and preferred graphics settings.
  2. Confirm the graphics hardware: Look up the exact GPU in the model and SKU, and distinguish integrated graphics from a discrete GPU.
  3. Verify memory: Check the installed capacity, speed, single- or dual-channel configuration, supported type, and upgrade options.
  4. Assess expansion: Check available ports and compatibility details if you plan to attach a GPU or upgrade storage.
  5. Price a ready-to-use system: Confirm whether the listing includes RAM, storage, an operating system, and the peripherals you need. Configurable and barebone listings may not include all of these.
  6. Compare like with like: Compare the mini PC and a desktop using the same games, resolution, and settings, then weigh the complete cost against the upgrade headroom you need.
