If purchased V-Bucks have not appeared, restart Fortnite, check the Epic account and platform used for the purchase, then confirm the transaction in Epic’s Transaction History. A cosmetic that vanished after a refund or payment reversal is a different issue; a refund for a returned cosmetic is different again. Use the steps below for the situation that matches yours.
V-Bucks missing after a purchase
Work through these checks before attempting to buy the currency again. A purchase made through a console or Nintendo storefront must be handled by that platform’s support team if it completed but the V-Bucks are still missing.

- Restart Fortnite. This refreshes the displayed balance. Then check the Item Shop balance again.
- Check the account and platform. Confirm that the Epic Games account ID shown in Fortnite is the one you intended to use, and sign in on the same platform where you bought the V-Bucks. Epic says currency is added when you sign in on that purchasing platform. Ordinary V-Bucks purchases do not include redemption codes and cannot be gifted to another account, according to Epic’s purchase troubleshooting guidance.
- Check which platform balance should show the currency. V-Bucks do not necessarily appear on every platform. Epic specifically notes that V-Bucks added or redeemed on a non-Nintendo device will not appear on a Nintendo device. Review Epic’s Shared Wallet platform guidance for platform availability. If you used a V-Bucks card, redeem its code separately; purchasing the card does not automatically credit the account.
- Look for the purchase in Epic Transaction History. If it is not listed, Epic says the transaction did not go through. Check with your bank or payment provider before trying again, so you do not risk making a duplicate purchase.
- Contact the seller if the transaction is recorded. For purchases made through PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo, contact that platform’s support. For an Epic Games Store purchase, submit a request to Epic Support and include the order number, V-Bucks quantity, and platform you use to play. Epic says it cannot process refunds or investigate purchases made on those console and Nintendo platforms.
V-Bucks missing after returning a cosmetic
Epic says returned V-Bucks usually appear within a few minutes. Refresh the balance in the Item Shop, make sure you are signed into the Epic account where the return was processed, check the In-Game Currency balance, and restart Fortnite. If the item was originally bought with a platform balance, the refund may be returned to that platform balance rather than the Shared Wallet. See Epic’s guidance for cosmetic-return refunds.
Cosmetics or V-Bucks removed after a refund or payment reversal
Epic says a refund or payment reversal, including a chargeback, can cause associated content to be removed. A gift sender may also reverse the V-Bucks spent on a gift, which can remove the gifted item. For the items covered by this policy, Epic states: “Epic Games Player Support cannot restore these items.” If you believe a removal was mistaken, Epic recommends asking the payment provider for more information. Read Epic’s explanation of removed items.

- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts
- Requires internet connection, valid Epic account and prior acceptance of the terms
- Redemption: Online
Epic also describes how a reversal can affect an account if it exceeds the available V-Bucks: recent Item Shop purchases up to 90 days old and recent gifts may be reversed. If those do not cover the amount, the account may show a negative V-Bucks balance. These are policy mechanics Epic describes, not proof of what happened on a particular account.

Returning a purchase is not the same as recovering something missing. For eligible Item Shop purchases made with V-Bucks, Epic’s purchase return guidance describes two options:

- Redeemable on accounts in the United States and in U.S. Dollars.
- Gift card must be redeemed at EpicGames.com/redeem. This gift card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly on a console device (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, etc.)
- If you play Fortnite experiences on a console device, you need to link your Epic Games account to your console account(s) so items purchased at Fortnite.com/item-shop appear across all of your linked accounts

- Redemption: Online
- Cancel Purchase: Available within 24 hours of an eligible purchase only if the item has not been used or equipped. Cancelling removes the item and returns its V-Bucks; each item can be cancelled once.
- Return Ticket: May be used for eligible Item Shop purchases made within the previous 30 days. Accounts start with three tickets, gain one every 365 days, and can hold no more than three. Returning a bundle requires returning the whole bundle.
Epic excludes several purchase types from Cancel Purchase and Return Tickets, including passes, pass levels, Premium Reward Track, gifted purchases, Level Up Quest Packs, Save the World loot llamas and event or weekly items, and developer-made island purchases. Battle Pass rewards are earned through play and cannot be returned as purchased items. For purchases made with real money through a third-party store, use that store’s refund process; Epic says it cannot process those refunds. See Epic’s Fortnite refund policy.
