|---|---|---|
| DIY logo maker | $0–$100 in FullStop’s 2026 guide | A template or generated mark, with basic formats and limited customization possible. Fiverr also describes free and paid tools. |
| Marketplace freelancer | Fiverr lists beginner designers at $5–$75, mid-level at $75–$350, and pros at $400–$2,200. Thrivelance’s 2026 index gives $100–$300 for a standard Fiverr package. | Scope varies by designer experience, complexity, concepts, revisions, and rights. These are platform or publisher guide figures, not a census of completed projects. |
| Direct freelancer or studio | A Visual Identity lists $300–$1,500 for a freelance designer. Thrivelance’s 2026 index lists $350–$800 for a standard direct/agency package and $900–$3,000 for a complex/expert package. | A broader package may include vector files or brand guidelines; the guides use different package definitions. |
| Small or boutique agency | FullStop lists $1,500–$5,000 for a logo; Fiverr lists $2,500–$10,000 for small studios. | Research, palette, typography, or a basic guide may be included. Some studio packages extend beyond the logo mark. |
| Full identity or larger agency | FullStop lists $5,000–$15,000 for a boutique full identity and $15,000–$50,000 for a mid-to-large agency. Fiverr lists $50,000–$100,000 for a high-end studio. | Potentially strategy, research, guidelines, audience or market work, rollout, and broader brand architecture. |

Why quotes differ
Discovery and strategy
A project that includes research into your market, competitors, and audience is broader than drawing a mark from a supplied brief. Ask what discovery work is actually included and what decisions it will inform.
#1 Best Overall
Concepts and revisions
More initial directions and refinement rounds mean more design time. Prefer a defined number of concepts and revision rounds over a vague promise of “unlimited revisions”; ask what counts as a revision and what extra rounds cost.
Deliverables beyond the logo
A logo-only project is not the same purchase as an identity system. Color and typography guidance, usage rules, stationery, social templates, packaging, and other applications expand the scope and may raise the fee.
Rank #2
File handover and rights
Ask for the file formats you need and scalable vector files for resizing without loss of quality. 99designs’ logo guide also recommends vector handover. Put ownership and permitted usage in writing, including whether the fee covers your intended commercial uses.
Complexity, experience, timing, and adjacent work
Designer experience, mark complexity, and urgency can affect the quote. Rush work may cost more. Naming and messaging are separate services, and a designer’s fee does not by itself establish that a mark is available as a trademark or guarantee trademark clearance.

How to compare logo design proposals
Send the same brief to each candidate and request a written proposal with these details. This makes a freelancer, studio, and agency easier to compare on equivalent scope.
- Project objective and any included discovery or strategy.
- Number of initial concepts and included revision rounds.
- Final logo variations, file formats, and vector or editable source-file handover.
- Ownership, licensing, and permitted uses.
- Timeline, rush fees, and any milestone or approval schedule.
- Price for extra revisions, applications, or other work outside the package.
- For a broader identity, separate prices for strategy, typography and color guidance, and applications.
Look at relevant portfolio work as well as the fee. A marketplace listing, design contest, and one-to-one engagement are different commissioning routes; a low advertised price may reflect narrower scope or a different process. Price alone does not establish originality, quality, or whether the final files and rights suit your needs. See 99designs’ route and handover guidance, alongside the scope factors in Fiverr’s guide and A Visual Identity’s guide.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What budget should you plan?
If you are a small business seeking custom logo work, use several hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars as an initial planning band, then check whether the quote buys only a mark or a broader identity. For a lower-cost route, compare DIY or marketplace offers carefully against the required customization, rights, revisions, and handover files. If you need research, a system of visual rules, and rollout assets, request a separately scoped identity proposal rather than treating a logo-only quote as comparable.
No representative, independently verified statistic establishes the current average businesses pay to hire a logo designer. In particular, the price ranges above should be read as guides from their named publishers, not population averages.
