For clear calls in an open office, connect your headset using its intended USB receiver or Bluetooth method, select it as both the microphone and speaker in your calling app, and test it before an important meeting. A connected headset is not necessarily the device your app is using.
Connect the headset using its intended method
- Charge or power it on. Check the headset’s quick-start guide for its recommended computer connection.
- Connect its supported USB receiver, if provided. Plug in the manufacturer-supplied or supported receiver, then turn on the headset. A receiver may be model-specific; do not assume a generic USB adapter will work.
- Otherwise, pair over Bluetooth. Use your computer’s Bluetooth settings and confirm the headset is connected for call audio.
For example, Microsoft’s instructions for its Modern Wireless Headset on Windows 10 and 11 say to connect the Microsoft USB Link, then open Teams Settings > Devices and select the link. Teams should then use it for the speaker and microphone: Microsoft’s Modern Wireless Headset setup instructions. These steps are specific to that headset and receiver.
Select the headset in your calling app
Open the audio-device settings in the meeting app and explicitly choose the headset for both microphone and speaker. If your operating system also offers separate input and output selections, check those too. Menu names vary by app and version; the important check is that the intended headset appears as the active device for both directions.
Test voice quality, mute, and call controls
- Make a short test call or recording. Speak at your usual volume and confirm the app’s microphone meter responds. Listen for clipping or dropouts; ask a colleague whether your voice is intelligible and room noise is distracting.
- Try mute in both places. Test the headset’s physical mute control and the app’s mute button, then unmute. Confirm the app reflects the state you expect before relying on it in a meeting.
- Check for competing audio. Zoom advises stopping other audio apps that may interrupt Zoom audio. Its support page also warns that mute synchronization may not be fully consistent when the headset maker’s desktop software is not in use: Zoom’s Bluetooth-headphone guidance.
- Adjust fit and microphone position. Follow the headset maker’s instructions. There is no universal boom distance or angle established for every headset.
If Bluetooth microphone audio sounds poor
Zoom cautions that other participants may hear lower-quality microphone audio when Bluetooth headphones are used. The result depends on the headset, computer, and software, so judge it with a test call rather than assuming every Bluetooth setup will sound the same. If voice quality is unsatisfactory, try the headset maker’s supported USB receiver or a wired fallback if the model offers one; either is a troubleshooting option, not a guaranteed improvement.

Know which kind of noise reduction you need
Microphone noise cancellation affects what callers hear
A noise-canceling microphone is intended to reduce surrounding sound captured by the mic. Logitech describes the Zone Wireless microphone as designed to isolate the wearer’s voice from nearby noise. That is a manufacturer feature claim, not an independent comparison of its performance in open offices: Logitech Zone Wireless product information.
Headphone ANC affects what you hear
Active noise cancellation in the earcups reduces sound reaching the wearer. It serves a different purpose from microphone noise cancellation and does not, by itself, establish that callers will hear less office noise.

Sidetone helps you monitor your own voice
Logitech says Zone Wireless sidetone lets users adjust how loudly they hear themselves. Use it as a comfort and voice-volume aid, not as evidence that background noise is being removed from the outgoing call.

Microsoft’s Teams-certified devices list was updated in September 2026 and notes that Teams does not support button controls on certified peripherals while third-party collaboration apps run at the same time. Zoom maintains its own certified hardware list, which includes workplace headsets and test configurations. Certification is a platform-specific compatibility signal, not a ranking of microphone performance in every room.
