If Galaxy apps start crashing after a One UI update, restart the phone, install available app and system updates, then clear the affected app’s cache. If that does not help, move to more disruptive checks—such as clearing app data or testing in Safe mode—one at a time. A crash after an update does not prove the update damaged the phone: outdated apps or software, unstable internet, low storage, temporary issues, and conflicts with downloaded apps can also contribute. Samsung lists these as possible causes.
Start with a restart and updates
- Restart the Galaxy phone. After it turns back on, open the app again and see whether the crash returns.
- Check for a Galaxy software update. Open Settings and look for the software update option; its exact location and label can vary by model and One UI version. Install an available update, then retest.
- Update the crashing app. Check the Play Store or Galaxy Store for an update. App compatibility may depend on both the app and the device; Samsung notes that an app developer may need to update an app to work with a device. Samsung’s app-crash guidance also identifies unstable internet and low storage as possible contributors, so check those if the app depends on a connection or the phone is nearly full.
Clear the affected app’s cache
Cache is temporary data for an app. Clearing it is a lower-impact troubleshooting step than resetting the app’s saved data.
- Open Settings > Apps.
- Tap the app that keeps crashing.
- Open Storage, then tap Clear cache.
- Reopen the app and test it.
Samsung’s instructions for clearing app cache and data use this general path, but menu names and placement can differ across Galaxy models and software versions.
Reset or reinstall the app only if needed
If the crash continues, you can try Clear data from the same app’s Storage screen, or uninstall and reinstall the app from the Play Store or Galaxy Store. Neither option guarantees a fix.

Clear data is a reset: Samsung says it returns the app to its original settings and removes saved app data and settings. You may need to sign in again, and locally stored information could be lost. Before using it, confirm that you can access the account and check whether the app’s important data is synced or backed up. Reinstalling can also remove local app data, depending on the app.
If One UI Home is the app that crashes
One UI Home controls the Home screen, so resetting its data has a broader visible effect than clearing cache for an ordinary app. Samsung documents a specific One UI 6.1.1 crash scenario and recommends starting with Reset app preferences, then clearing One UI Home cache and data if necessary. Check your phone’s model and installed One UI version before following this version-specific guidance; paths can vary.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
- Open Settings > Apps, tap More options (the three-dot menu), then select Reset app preferences. Samsung says this does not affect existing app data, but it resets some app conditions, including notifications, defaults, and permission restrictions.
- If the documented issue still applies, open Settings > Apps > One UI Home > Storage and clear its cache. If needed, clear its data as well.
Clearing One UI Home data resets the Home screen: Samsung says the layout, settings, and Home screen apps return to defaults. Arrange the Home screen again afterward. See Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1-specific One UI Home guidance.
Use Safe mode to check for downloaded-app conflicts
Safe mode temporarily disables downloaded apps, helping you tell whether one may be interfering. The steps for entering it differ by Galaxy device; use Samsung’s Safe mode instructions for your model.

- Start the phone in Safe mode and test the app or feature that was crashing.
- If the problem stops, a downloaded app is a likely contributor. Restart normally, remove a recently installed or updated app, then retest. Repeat one app at a time to narrow down the cause.
- If the crash continues in Safe mode, a downloaded app is less likely to be responsible. Persistent trouble may need Samsung support or service assessment.
Try advanced recovery steps cautiously
Samsung’s regional guidance for post-update problems includes restarting and, in some cases, wiping the cache partition. Recovery-mode menus and button combinations vary by model, so use the instructions for your exact Galaxy device rather than guessing. This is separate from clearing an individual app’s cache. Samsung UK’s post-update troubleshooting guidance covers these steps in its regional context.
A factory reset is a last resort, not a routine response to an app crash. It deletes device data, so back up important information before proceeding. Samsung’s factory-reset guidance explains the process and its consequences. If crashes persist in Safe mode or you see other signs of device trouble, contact Samsung support or a service center instead of repeatedly resetting the phone.
