Choose stable One UI if you rely on your Galaxy phone for dependable daily use. Consider the beta only if your exact device and region are eligible, you want to try unreleased changes, and you can accept bugs, possible data loss, and a device-resetting rollback. Samsung describes beta software as testing software that may behave unexpectedly.
What changes between One UI beta and stable?
A beta is a pre-release version offered so eligible users can preview features and user-interface changes and report feedback on performance, stability, and usability. It is not a promise that every feature is finished: Samsung says beta software may contain bugs, errors, or inaccuracies, behave unexpectedly, or have incomplete or missing features.
The stable version is the official release that follows Samsung’s analysis of beta feedback and implementation of improvements. Samsung does not give a fixed stable-release date in its beta FAQ, so beta availability should not be treated as a reliable schedule for the final update.
| Decision factor | Beta | Stable official release |
|---|---|---|
| Timing | Eligible users can preview software before its official release; the beta FAQ gives no fixed date for the stable version. Samsung One UI Beta Program | Follows feedback analysis and improvements; availability depends on the official rollout. Samsung One UI Beta Program |
| Reliability | May include bugs, unexpected behavior, or incomplete and missing features. Samsung One UI Beta Program | The better default when predictable everyday operation matters. |
| Access | Requires enrollment and an eligible device, operating-system version, and market; availability varies by country. Samsung One UI Beta Program | Installed through normal software updates when the official version is available. |
| Data and exit | Samsung recommends backing up first. Leaving the program and downgrading resets the device and removes data generated during beta testing. Samsung One UI Beta Program | Staying on the official release avoids beta rollback steps. |
| Features | Offers a preview, but changes differ across releases and devices. Samsung One UI Beta Program | Receives the official release after Samsung analyzes feedback and implements improvements. Samsung One UI Beta Program |
What kinds of features might a beta include?
Beta changes depend on the One UI release and supported device. As a historical example, Samsung’s December 6, 2024 announcement for One UI 7 highlighted AI writing tools, call transcripts, Now Bar, redesigned widgets, lock-screen changes, and camera controls. Those were One UI 7 examples—not a promise that every device, region, or later beta includes the same features. Samsung Newsroom India, December 6, 2024

Which should you use?
Choose stable if your phone is essential
Stay with the official release if you need your phone to work predictably for work, travel, payments, communication, or other daily tasks. That recommendation follows from Samsung’s warning that beta software can have bugs, behave unexpectedly, or lack features; Samsung does not publish a beta failure-rate statistic in its program guidance.
Consider beta if you can absorb the risks
A beta may suit you if you enjoy trying changes early, your device is explicitly eligible, and you are willing to back up, report problems, and potentially restore your phone after a rollback. Samsung’s beta program is for testing and feedback, not simply an early stable upgrade.

How to check whether your device is eligible
Eligibility is specific to the device, operating-system version, country, and program period. Check the Samsung Members app on the Galaxy device you intend to enroll; do not assume eligibility because another person with a similar model has access.
Samsung’s March 27, 2026 One UI 8.5 announcement described expansion to the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy S24 FE, and Galaxy Tab S11 in select markets including India, Korea, the U.K., and the U.S. Samsung said availability and timing could vary by market, and noted that the beta and named features were unavailable in Canada. This is a dated example, not a current eligibility list. Samsung Newsroom Canada, March 27, 2026

How to prepare before installing
- Confirm enrollment is available: Open Samsung Members on the intended phone and check for the One UI beta registration option. Registration requires a Samsung account, and access depends on eligibility.
- Back up your phone: Samsung recommends using Smart Switch PC to back up to a computer before installation because data loss is a stated risk.
- Update installed apps: Samsung recommends doing this before installing the beta to reduce compatibility problems.
- Enroll and install: Follow the registration instructions in Samsung Members. If accepted, Samsung’s stated installation path is Settings → Software update → Download and install, or the participated beta test page. Updates are distributed gradually among participants.
- Use Wi-Fi where practical: Samsung recommends Wi-Fi for the download.
How to report problems and leave the beta
Send feedback or report an error
Report beta errors through Samsung Members. Samsung instructs participants to submit an error report within three minutes of encountering the issue and leave the app open until submission finishes; the process can take up to five minutes. Submit UX or UI suggestions through the beta community while the public beta period is open.

Withdraw and downgrade
- In Samsung Members, go to Settings → Beta program settings → Withdraw from beta program.
- Connect the phone to a computer by USB, open Smart Switch, and choose Downgrade.
- Restore your computer backup afterward if needed.
Samsung says the downgrade resets the device and removes data generated during beta testing. The rollback flow requires a USB connection to a computer; check that your cable supports data transfer and fits both the phone and computer. A cable alone does not replace Smart Switch or a backup.
