To get more useful flight time from a DJI Mini 5 Pro, keep its battery warm in cold conditions, let it cool before charging, and plan to land with energy in reserve. DJI’s “up to” flight-time figures are controlled maximum tests that end in a forced low-voltage landing—not safe targets for a real flight. For a longer single sortie, the compatible Intelligent Flight Battery Plus is DJI’s hardware option, but it takes the aircraft above 249 g. For a longer day of shooting, carry additional batteries instead.
What DJI’s flight-time claims mean
DJI lists up to 36 minutes with the 2788 mAh standard Intelligent Flight Battery. That figure comes from forward flight at 21.6 kph in a windless environment at sea level, in photo mode with obstacle avoidance set to Brake, until forced landing due to low voltage. DJI lists up to 52 minutes with the compatible 4680 mAh Intelligent Flight Battery Plus. Its test used the same stated windless, sea-level, photo-mode and Brake conditions, but at 25.2 kph and likewise continued until forced low-voltage landing. Because the batteries were tested at different speeds, the 36- and 52-minute figures are not a directly controlled head-to-head comparison. Neither figure establishes typical usable flight time. These endpoint conditions matter: a maximum test that ends in forced landing is not a sensible field target. No reliable typical-use duration is established here, so allow for your route and conditions rather than planning around a promised number of minutes.

How to preserve battery capacity and fly with a safe reserve
Prepare for cold weather
DJI says battery capacity is significantly reduced between -10°C and 5°C. In low-temperature conditions, keep the battery warm before takeoff and follow the manual’s warm-up advice. DJI recommends warming it to at least 10°C before takeoff; it identifies above 20°C as the ideal warm-up temperature. The manual also recommends a brief hover after takeoff to warm the battery. Wait for a hot battery to cool before charging
After landing, let a hot battery cool before connecting it to a charger. DJI specifies a charging temperature range of 5°C to 40°C and an ideal range of 22°C to 28°C; charging stops if cell temperature exceeds 55°C. Plan the return, not just the outbound leg
Set up the flight so the aircraft can return and land with a reserve. DJI’s low-battery return logic considers the aircraft’s position, environment, and flight speed. Canceling Return to Home after a low-battery warning can leave too little energy for a safe landing. A long outbound route, wind, repeated acceleration, hovering, and filming choices may affect runtime, but DJI’s cited material does not quantify their individual effects; do not budget a specific minute penalty for any one factor. DJI’s current product listings were accessed on 2026-10-07. The different test speeds mean the listed maximums do not show the exact flight-time increase you should expect by switching batteries. The Plus is relevant if your priority is DJI’s longer advertised single-flight maximum and the added weight is acceptable under the rules where you fly. For a longer shooting day, bring spare batteries
A spare battery extends a field session by enabling another sortie; it does not extend the flight time of the battery currently in the aircraft. DJI’s Mini 5 Pro Fly More Combo listing includes three standard batteries and a charging hub, making that type of kit relevant for successive flights. The published values come from specific controlled conditions and end at forced low-voltage landing. DJI cautions that environment, actual use, and firmware affect results. A real route and shooting session may differ from the test, and the sources do not establish a typical mixed-use duration or rank individual maneuvers and camera settings by their battery impact. Use the on-screen battery and return guidance for the flight at hand, and land with a safe reserve rather than trying to reproduce a maximum-test number.
