Start by identifying exactly what is failing: the headset may lose track of your surroundings, hands or controllers may disappear or drift, Wi-Fi may fail to connect, a controller may not pair, or a paired controller may track while its buttons do nothing. These are different problems, so treat them separately rather than resetting the headset first.
Identify the problem before changing settings
Note what you see and when it happens. The distinction matters: a controller that appears in VR and follows movement but does not respond to button presses is not showing the same symptom as a controller that will not pair or stay tracked.
- Headset tracking: the virtual view loses its position in the room or behaves as though the headset cannot track its surroundings.
- Hand or controller tracking: a hand or controller disappears, drifts, or fails to follow movement.
- Wi-Fi: the headset cannot join or remain connected to a wireless network.
- Controller pairing: the controller does not connect to the headset.
- Controller input: the controller is connected and tracked, but buttons do not register.
Meta’s developer documentation discusses Quest controller tracking and input, including Touch Plus controllers, but it is intended for developers rather than consumer repair. Do not apply engine or development configuration steps as a substitute for consumer troubleshooting: Meta Quest controller tracking documentation.
If a controller is tracked but its buttons do not work
Check whether the controller has power
In a Meta Community Forums thread about a Quest 3 controller that paired but had no working buttons, Meta Community Manager MetaStoreHelp advised checking whether the controller was receiving power. If there are no signs of power, consult current Meta Quest Help for the model-specific power and battery steps rather than assuming the controller needs to be paired again.

Consider a controller-level reset only with current instructions
In that same older community thread, MetaStoreHelp said that if the controller had power, a controller factory reset could be tried, and emphasized that it differs from a headset factory reset. A separate response in the thread gives button combinations for left and right controllers, but those instructions are dated and may no longer match current software. Confirm the current sequence with the Meta Community Forums thread and current Meta consumer support before using any combination; do not treat the older post as a current support bulletin.
If tracking is the problem
First decide whether the lost tracking is in the headset’s view of the room or in one hand or controller. That observation helps distinguish a headset tracking symptom from a controller tracking or input symptom, but the available verified instructions do not establish a current Quest 3 consumer menu path or a complete official procedure for either case.

Use the current Meta Quest Help guidance for your exact symptom and software version. Avoid relying on developer documentation as a consumer fix, or changing unverified settings based on generic headset advice.
If the Quest 3 cannot connect to Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi trouble is separate from tracking and controller faults. The available verified material does not establish current Quest 3-specific network steps or menu labels, so do not assume that a generic router procedure or a particular headset setting is the right remedy. Check current Meta Quest Help for connection instructions that match your headset and the symptom you see.

Know which reset you are considering

If the symptom remains after following current instructions for the specific failure, contact Meta support with the headset model, software version if available, and a concise description of what does and does not work. For example, say whether a controller pairs, appears in VR, tracks movement, and registers buttons. Support can help determine whether further troubleshooting or a hardware remedy is appropriate; the symptom alone does not establish that a headset or controller needs replacement.
