Set up a home treadmill according to the assembly and owner manual for its exact model and revision, then maintain it only as that manual allows. Treadmills differ in placement clearances, electrical requirements, lubrication, and belt adjustments, so a procedure that is right for one machine can damage another.
How do I set up a treadmill at home?
Choose a suitable location
Find the owner manual for your exact make, model, and revision before choosing a spot. Check its requirements for the treadmill’s dimensions, clearance around the machine, floor support, electrical connection, and restrictions on damp locations or outdoor storage. Place the treadmill on a stable, level surface. Horizon’s 7.0 AT-03 instructions, for example, cover location and leveling; they are not a substitute for the manual for another model.
A floor mat is optional, not a universal requirement. Consider one if it suits the floor and the treadmill maker recommends it; Decathlon, for example, recommends a suitable mat for its RUN100E. Confirm that any mat fits the treadmill and the intended placement.
Assemble the treadmill using its own guide
Follow the assembly instructions in order and use the supplied hardware. Do not improvise lifting, folding, or moving steps: frames and support mechanisms can shift unexpectedly. Check fasteners and components as the manual directs, and do not operate the treadmill if anything appears damaged or insecure. What should I check before using it?
Before starting, clear the operating area and check that the belt can move freely. Attach and use the safety key exactly as your manual specifies. Keep children and pets away from a running treadmill, and follow the manual’s instructions for getting on and off, stopping, folding, and moving it.
Some details vary by brand. Reebok’s support guidance says to clip the red safety key to the user’s waistband and keep children and pets away. Use that clipping instruction only if it matches your treadmill’s directions. If the machine is damaged or malfunctioning, do not use it; consult its manual or the manufacturer’s support channel.
How should I clean and inspect a treadmill?
Wipe down the treadmill and belt using the cleaner and method approved in the owner manual. Keep dust and debris from building up around the belt and machine. During routine care, look for visible damage to the power cord and check accessible fasteners as directed.

Do not open a motor cover or attempt electrical repairs unless the manufacturer identifies that work as user maintenance. Cleaners can be unsuitable for some surfaces, just as lubricants can be unsuitable for some belt systems; Precor’s TRM10 Base service documentation, for example, cautions against applying lubricant to its belt and deck.

There is no universal lubrication interval. Check the manual first, including whether the belt is pre-lubricated, waxed, described as maintenance-free, or requires a proprietary product. Buy lubricant only when the manufacturer permits it and specifies a compatible type and application method.
For one model-specific example, Decathlon’s guidance for the RUN100E version A calls for lubrication every 200 km and names the product to use. That interval and product apply to that version’s instructions, not to treadmills generally. In contrast, Precor’s TRM10 Base service documentation says not to apply lubricant to that system’s belt and deck.

Only use a silicone treadmill belt lubricant if your own manual permits a compatible silicone product. Follow its directions for where and how much to apply; do not assume a product advertised for treadmills is appropriate for your machine.
How do I center or tighten the running belt?
A belt that drifts to one side or slips may need adjustment, but the correct steps depend on the model. Use the exact owner or support guide, the tool specified for your treadmill, and only the adjustments it authorizes. Do not copy another model’s bolt direction or number of turns.
Decathlon’s RUN100E instructions describe a model-specific centering procedure using the supplied Allen key and staged quarter turns. Horizon’s 7.0 AT-03 support materials also address belt tension and centering. If the belt, deck, or adjustment hardware appears damaged, stop and contact the manufacturer or a qualified service provider instead of adjusting it.

What maintenance schedule should I follow?
Use the service reminders on your machine and the maintenance schedule in its manual. Intervals for checks or replacement parts are model-specific: Decathlon publishes hour- or distance-based guidance for the RUN100E version A, but those figures should not be applied to other treadmills.
For replacement belts or parts, match the exact make, model, and revision before ordering. Contact the manufacturer for persistent noise, electrical faults, damaged wiring, a damaged belt or deck, or any service task involving internal covers. Follow the manufacturer’s repair guidance rather than attempting a procedure intended for a different treadmill.
