Yes. Windows App can connect to a remote PC from supported Windows, Mac, iPhone and iPad, Android, ChromeOS, and Meta Quest devices. For a direct connection, you need a network path to the PC, an account authorized to sign in to it, and a host configured for Remote Desktop. Microsoft’s general setup guidance says the host PC must run Windows Pro; the device you connect from can run Windows Home or another supported operating system.
Which devices can run Windows App for a remote PC connection?
Microsoft’s Windows App documentation lists these minimum client operating-system versions for the remote-PC workflow:

These are platform prerequisites, not a guarantee that every device or Windows App feature is available everywhere. Check Microsoft’s current Windows App platform guidance for the relevant platform and workflow.
Do I need a Microsoft account to use Windows App?
For a direct remote-PC connection, Microsoft says you can connect without signing in to Windows App. You still need credentials for a user account that is allowed to sign in to the remote PC. In other words, app sign-in and remote-PC sign-in are separate.

That differs from services such as Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365: those organizational resources require an organizational account and an administrator to assign the relevant desktop or app. A Windows 365 Cloud PC is not the same thing as connecting directly to a personal or workplace PC.
What does the remote PC need?
Windows edition and version
Microsoft’s general Remote Desktop setup guidance says the host PC must run Windows Pro. The client PC can run any Windows edition, including Home, or use a different operating system.

Microsoft’s Windows App documentation also lists Windows 11, Windows 10 version 1809 and later, and Windows Server 2019 or later in connection with remote-PC support. These version listings should not be read as saying every edition of those operating systems can accept incoming Remote Desktop connections: the general host setup guidance specifies Windows Pro for a Windows PC host.
Remote Desktop enabled and account access
The person responsible for the host must enable Remote Desktop in Windows settings and note the PC name. The connecting user then adds that PC name in Windows App and signs in with an account that has access to the host. Microsoft’s setup instructions are in its Remote Desktop article.

Network connection
The client must be able to reach the remote PC over a network. Being able to install Windows App does not, by itself, establish that a connection is possible; a workplace may also apply network or access controls. A direct PC connection is distinct from being assigned a hosted desktop service.

Yes, Windows Home can be used on the client device—the one running Windows App to connect. Microsoft’s general setup guidance does not list Windows Home as an eligible host edition for ordinary incoming Remote Desktop connections; it specifies Windows Pro for the remote Windows PC.

Does Windows 10 still work for remote PC connections?
Microsoft lists Windows 10 version 1809 and later in its Windows App remote-PC documentation, with support qualifications. Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025, according to Microsoft. The end of support does not mean a Windows 10 PC stops functioning, but Microsoft says versions outside mainstream support need enrollment in Extended Security Updates (ESU) to meet the stated Windows App support qualification. Check Microsoft’s current platform guidance for the applicable version and support status.
Windows App on Windows: a separate Remote Desktop Services limitation
Windows App on Windows does not yet support Remote Desktop Services, according to Microsoft’s platform documentation. That limitation concerns Remote Desktop Services; it should not be confused with the direct remote-PC workflow described above. Windows App support also varies by platform and by the service being accessed.
