To check for and install a security update, open Settings > Software update > Download and install, then follow the prompts if an update is available. To check the security patch directly on supported software versions, go to Settings > Security and privacy > Updates > Security update. Menu names and availability can vary by Fold model, carrier, and software version.
Prepare your Galaxy Z Fold
Before you start, Samsung recommends preparing the phone so it has power and a reliable connection while the update downloads and installs.

- Charge the phone to at least 50%. This is Samsung’s recommendation in its Canada software update guide, last updated September 4, 2026—not a universal Android requirement.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and make sure there is enough free storage.
- Back up important data before updating.
- Keep the phone plugged in with a charger and USB cable during installation. Do not use the phone, touch the screen, press buttons, turn it off, or disconnect the charger or cable while installation is in progress.
How do I install a security update on my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold?
- Open Settings.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- If an update is offered, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it. Depending on the device, you may instead see options such as Download now, Install now, Check for system updates, or Check for software updates.
Some devices download offered updates automatically. A Galaxy Z Fold6 manual, for example, documents Wi-Fi auto-download and a Last update details option; those specifics are a model example, not confirmation that every Fold generation has identical menus. Samsung also says emergency security updates may be installed automatically on the Fold6.
How do I check for security updates on a Galaxy Z Fold?

How do I verify which update is installed?
Open Settings > About phone > Software information to view the One UI version, Android version, and build information. The Software update menu may also show Last update details. The precise information shown can differ by model and software version.
Why does my Galaxy Z Fold say it’s up to date?
A phone reporting no available update does not by itself mean it is unsupported. Samsung says it can be normal not to see an update: release timing can depend on the exact model, region, and carrier. Unlocked devices typically receive updates sooner, while carrier-locked devices may wait for carrier review and customization. Samsung’s Canada guide describes it as “completely normal not to see any available updates” except in an exceptional case.

- Check the exact model and software details at Settings > About phone > Software information.
- Ask your carrier whether an update has been released for your model and market if the phone is carrier-locked.
- Do not assume a particular patch cadence or support end date from the model name alone. Samsung says Galaxy products launched from 2019 receive security updates for at least four years, with monthly, quarterly, or twice-yearly frequency; that general statement does not establish the current schedule or remaining support period for every Z Fold variant, region, or carrier.
What should I do if my Samsung update fails?
First, confirm that the phone has adequate charge, Wi-Fi, and free storage, then try the on-device check again. If it still fails or the update is not offered when you expect it, check availability with your carrier and use Samsung’s software-update troubleshooting and support guidance. Because release timing and menus can vary by carrier, model, and software version, provide those details when asking for help.
