Compare the exact laptop configurations, not just their GPU names. First confirm each model’s GPU power limit and matched benchmark performance; then compare the CPU, memory, screen, storage, portability, battery, ports, warranty, and the full price of the same configurations in the same market. A higher GPU badge or lower sale price alone does not establish better value.
Do two laptops with the same GPU perform the same?
No. A GPU name does not fully describe how that GPU performs inside a particular laptop. NVIDIA cautions that “Performance will vary by laptop model; check with the manufacturer for their particular model and specifications.” Its published test conditions also show why comparisons need context: NVIDIA’s RTX 40-series note specifies a 150W GPU TGP, 1440p, highest game settings, Windows 11 x64, and DLSS Super Resolution Quality Mode and DLSS Frame Generation when available. These are vendor test parameters, not a guarantee that every laptop with that GPU will deliver the same results. NVIDIA’s RTX 40 Series laptop page advises checking the specific manufacturer model.
GPU power configuration is one reason to inspect the laptop maker’s specification page and model-specific reviews. If the maker does not disclose a GPU power limit or TGP, mark it unknown rather than inferring it from the GPU name. NVIDIA’s laptop comparison page is a starting point for GPU-family information, but the laptop’s own specification remains relevant.
Build a shortlist using exact configurations
Use one row for each exact SKU or retailer configuration. Laptop families can be sold with different processors, memory, storage, screens, and prices, so a row labeled only with a model family or GPU tier is not enough to make a fair price comparison.

Compare performance under matching conditions
Use results from the same review or directly comparable tests where possible. A score from one game at one resolution cannot safely be set beside a different game or a test with different graphics settings as if both measured the same thing.
- Match the game or application, resolution, graphics quality, and laptop power mode.
- Keep native-rendered results separate from upscaled or frame-generated results. Those settings affect the measured output and the experience; do not treat the scores as interchangeable.
- Record the exact upscaling and frame-generation settings. NVIDIA’s RTX 50-series comparison specifies a 150W GPU TGP, 1440p, and maximum settings, while its DLSS settings differ by GPU generation. Those conditions describe NVIDIA’s comparison, not a universal result for every laptop. See NVIDIA’s RTX 50 Series laptop page.
- Prefer model-specific independent reviews when manufacturer specifications do not state a detail such as GPU power handling.
Compare the rest of the configuration before judging price
Similar GPU performance does not make two laptops equivalent purchases. The processor can affect workloads that rely on CPU performance; RAM and storage capacity may determine whether a configuration is usable without an upgrade; and the screen can matter as much as frame rate for some buyers. Weight those differences against your own use rather than assigning every feature the same value.

- Intel Celeron N4120: 4 Cores & Threads, 1.1GHz Base Clock, Up to 2.6GHz Boost Clock, 4MB Cache, Intel UHD Graphics 600. The perfect combination of performance, power consumption, and value helps your device handle multitasking smoothly and reliably with four processing cores to divide up the work.
For example, Windows Central’s 2025 comparison of the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2025) and Razer Blade 14 (2025) lists GPU, CPU, RAM, SSD, ports, battery, and weight, alongside its price comparisons. It reports maximum GPU power handling of 110W for the G14 comparison configuration and 115W for the Blade 14 comparison configuration. Its tests cover four games with frame generation disabled, then discuss how enabling frame generation changes the comparison. This is an example of why configuration and test settings belong beside the price, not a universal laptop ranking. The article’s quoted prices are dated 2025 snapshots, not current prices. - Set your workload and target resolution. A creator’s rendering needs and a high-refresh gaming target may favor different trade-offs.
- Set a performance floor. Shortlist laptops with the GPU features you need and adequate tested performance. Do not assume a higher GPU number is worth a premium if the evidence does not show a useful gain for your workload.
- Verify each exact model’s GPU specification. Record the maker-documented power limit, or mark it unknown and consult reliable model-specific reviews.
- Use like-for-like performance evidence. Compare matched tests and keep native rendering distinct from upscaling and frame generation.
- Compare exact configurations in the same market on the same date. Include tax, shipping, seller status, and warranty region where relevant. A discount on a different RAM, storage, or display configuration is not a direct price comparison.
- Choose a winner for a stated use case. Examples include the lowest current price for comparable tested gaming performance, or the most portable option that still meets a defined performance floor.
There is no evidence here for a single general statistic describing how much performance varies among all laptops that share a GPU label. Make the decision from the specific models, test conditions, configuration, and current purchase terms you can verify.
