To find audiobooks on Spotify, search for a book title or author, or open Search > Browse All > Audiobooks. Before you start listening, check whether the book is included with your plan or requires a separate unlock: included listening time is limited to eligible plans and, on Family and Duo, only the plan manager gets the allowance.
Find an audiobook
- Open Spotify and search for the audiobook’s title or author. Or select Search, choose Browse All, then select Audiobooks to explore featured titles and categories. Spotify’s audiobook guide describes these ways to browse and find books.
- Open a result to review its description, length, rating, explicit-content marker, and any available sample. Save the title if you want to find it again later.
- Check the title’s access label before listening. Books in an eligible subscriber catalog are marked Included in Premium or with the relevant included-plan label. Other titles may be offered for a separate unlock.
Choose how to access the title
| Access route | How it works | Key conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Included subscriber catalog | Eligible plans provide a monthly listening-time allowance for titles marked as included. | Spotify’s US support page lists 15 hours per month for Premium Individual and for the plan manager on Premium Family or Duo; Premium Student is not eligible. Spotify also lists a separate Audiobooks Access plan in the US, with 15 hours per month from the subscriber catalog alongside ad-supported music and podcasts. Availability and plan terms vary by market. Spotify’s subscriber-plan details and Audiobooks Access plan details. |
| Individual audiobook unlock | Pay once for access to a specific audiobook through Spotify’s web player. After unlocking, you can listen in the app and download the book for offline listening. | The unlock gives your account access; it does not mean you own the audiobook content. An individually unlocked title does not use the included monthly listening allowance. Spotify’s audiobook guide and subscriber-plan details. |
If the book is included
Select the included title and start listening. Included hours renew at the next billing period, and unused hours expire; Spotify says it does not refund unused or expired included time. Spotify measures use against the audiobook’s normal duration, so increasing playback speed does not make the allowance last longer by that measure.
Spotify says eligible listeners may be able to extend audiobook time through monthly add-ons or one-time top-ups. Family and Duo members other than the plan manager may need to buy hours separately, depending on the option available to them. Spotify’s plan guidance and top-up purchasing guidance explain the conditions; check the offer shown in your account because options vary. Spotify’s purchasing guidance says top-ups are valid for 12 months from purchase.
If the book requires a separate unlock
- Open the audiobook in Spotify and choose the unlock or purchase option shown.
- Complete payment in Spotify’s web player. Spotify says audiobook unlock payments are web-only.
- Return to Spotify’s app to play the unlocked audiobook, or download it there for offline listening.
Find saved or unlocked audiobooks later
Open Your Library > Audiobooks to find audiobooks you have saved or unlocked. If a title is not available through your included catalog, check whether Spotify offers it for individual unlock.

Check availability in your country
Spotify’s support page lists audiobook availability in 22 markets: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States. See Spotify’s availability page for its current list.
Being in a supported market does not guarantee that a particular audiobook or access route will be available there. Spotify says the included catalog and individually unlockable titles can differ by country, and availability can change. If a book is missing, try searching for the author or a related genre and review the options shown for your account.
