For a clearer stereo image, start with symmetry: place the left and right speakers at equal distances from your usual seat, aim their tweeters or acoustic centres toward your seated ears, and begin with the speakers and listening position forming a rough equilateral triangle. Treat that layout as a starting point, not a rule. Desk space, speaker design, and room reflections all affect the best final position.
Start with a symmetrical triangle
From your normal listening position, try to make the left and right speakers equally far away and similarly spaced around your screen. A useful first layout is an approximate equilateral triangle: the distance between the speakers is about the same as the distance from either speaker to your ears. Focal and ADAM Audio both recommend this geometry for stereo listening, while Klipsch presents it as a baseline to experiment with.
On a desktop, the triangle may need to be narrower or shallower to fit. Preserve symmetry where you can: keep the speakers at comparable distances from your seat and avoid placing one much farther forward or closer to a side boundary than the other. Equal geometry helps give centered sounds, such as a lead vocal, a stable position between the speakers; it does not guarantee a particular result in every room.
Set the height and keep the sound path clear
Aim each tweeter—or the speaker’s acoustic centre, often just below the tweeter—toward seated ear height. If the speakers sit too low or high, raise them or angle them toward your ears. ADAM Audio recommends a firm, solid supporting surface and an unobstructed path between the monitors and listener; Focal likewise recommends placing tweeters at seated ear level.

- External computer speaker in Black (set of 2) for amplifying PC or laptop audio
- USB-Powered from USB port of PC or Laptop
- In-line volume control for easy access
- Blue LED lights; metal finish and scratch-free padded base
- Bottom radiator for “springy” bass sound
Stands are optional. They can help if the speakers are too low to aim properly or if the desk surface is unsuitable, but first see whether repositioning or angling the speakers you already own solves the problem. Check that each speaker is stable and that screens, equipment, or other objects are not directly blocking its path to you. Audient discusses stands as a way to bring monitors to ear level and adjust their orientation.
Adjust spacing and toe-in by listening
Begin with both speakers aimed toward your listening position. There is no universally established desktop toe-in angle in the cited manufacturer guidance, so use small changes rather than chasing a generic measurement. Klipsch recommends incremental adjustments; Teufel suggests checking voice centering, bass, and spatial clarity as you evaluate them.

- [COMPATIBLE WITH USB-C DEVICES] - Thanks to the built-in USB-C to USB Adapter, our USB-C speakers are now compatible with devices that only have USB-C interface, such as the latest MacBook, Mac mini, iMac, iPad, Android phones, and tablets.
- [INCREDIBLE LOUD SOUND WITH RICH BASS] - Our small computer speaker is equipped with dual ultra-magnetic drivers and dual passive radiators, providing high-quality stereo sound with powerful volume and deep bass for an incredible audio experience.
- [ADAPTIVE-CHANNEL-SWITCHING WITH G-SENSOR] - Ensures the left and right sound channels remain correctly positioned whether the speaker is clamped to the top or bottom of your monitor.
- [CONVENIENT TOUCH CONTROL] - Three intuitive touch buttons on the front allow for easy muting and volume adjustment.
- Play familiar music with a clear voice or other sound that should appear centered.
- Listen from your usual seated position. If the voice seems pulled to one side, check that the speakers are placed symmetrically and that your seat is centered before changing angles.
- Change one thing at a time: toe-in, spacing, or distance to your seat. Move speakers a small amount, listen again, and note which position sounds more focused and balanced.
- Keep the arrangement that works at your normal seat, even if it differs from a textbook triangle.
Account for the desk and nearby surfaces
Placement is only part of what you hear. Audient notes that room reflections can blur stereo imaging and that boundaries affect bass response. Hard surfaces can reflect sound, while nearby walls and corners can contribute to bass buildup, as described by Klipsch and Teufel. A desk and objects on it may also influence what reaches your ears.
First work on speaker symmetry, aim, and support. If reflections remain distracting, try changing the placement or reducing nearby reflective surfaces with existing soft furnishings, such as a rug or wall hanging. Treat room changes as a later option rather than a prerequisite; the sources do not establish a single wall clearance or treatment that suits every desktop setup.

Choose the best layout for your constraints
When desk space forces compromises, compare your options by how well they meet these practical checks:
- Aim: Can both speakers point toward seated ear height?
- Symmetry: Are left-right spacing and listening distances reasonably equal?
- Support: Are the speakers stable, with a clear path to your ears?
- Surroundings: Does a nearby wall, corner, or hard surface seem to create excessive bass or distracting reflections?
Prefer the arrangement that best balances those factors at the seat where you actually listen. Klipsch aptly describes the final stage as subjective: “trust your ears!”

What the placement guidance can—and cannot—tell you
The cited audio-company guidance supports symmetry, ear-level aiming, stable support, and iterative listening. It does not establish a controlled comparative study or a universally optimal desktop distance, angle, or wall clearance. Teufel’s distances and triangle calculations are general stereo examples, not measured desktop outcomes. Use exact numbers only as starting references when the dimensions suit your own desk and room.
