If FSR 4 is missing or not working on an AMD handheld or laptop, first confirm that the exact graphics hardware and game support it. “AMD” or “Radeon” alone does not establish eligibility: AMD says FSR versions are available in select games, require developer integration, and are supported on select AMD products. Check the current AMD FSR support information before treating a missing option as a device fault.
1. Confirm the exact graphics hardware
Write down the complete handheld or laptop model and the graphics device reported by the operating system. A product may use AMD graphics without supporting every FSR generation. AMD describes FSR support as product-selective, and its current FSR page describes FSR Redstone for Radeon RX 9000 Series graphics in select games; that information does not establish FSR 4 support across AMD handheld processors or laptop integrated graphics.
Use the device maker’s specifications and support page alongside AMD’s current compatibility information. If the exact GPU is not listed as supported, a driver reinstall or settings change cannot make it eligible.
2. Check whether the game implements the relevant FSR version
FSR is not a universal system switch. AMD says a game developer must integrate it, and availability varies by game. Check the support information for the specific game and confirm that it offers the FSR generation you want; an option for an earlier FSR version is not evidence of FSR 4 support.

Also check the game’s graphics menu and any documented requirements for its upscaling option. If the game does not implement FSR 4 for your configuration, there may be no in-game FSR 4 setting to enable.
3. Check drivers and device software through the right support route
Make sure the graphics driver and AMD software appropriate for the device are current. For an OEM laptop or handheld, start with the manufacturer’s support page or update utility: the device maker may provide a model-specific driver package or installation route. AMD and Microsoft documentation does not establish one universal driver version or installation method for all handhelds and laptops, so do not install a package meant for a different model.

- Identify the model and GPU. Record the device’s full model name and exact graphics-device name.
- Check the OEM support page. Look for graphics-driver and system updates intended for that model.
- Check the game’s current requirements and support notes. Confirm the supported FSR generation and any relevant configuration details.
- Restart and test the same game setting again. Note whether the option is absent, unavailable, or produces a different problem.
4. Distinguish FSR 4 from RSR and HYPR-RX
Radeon Super Resolution (RSR)
RSR is a separate, driver-based upscaling feature, not FSR 4. AMD says it works on qualifying Radeon hardware when a game runs in exclusive full-screen mode, and it may be useful in games without native FSR. Check AMD’s RSR requirements before trying it; it has its own hardware and display-mode conditions.
HYPR-RX and HYPR-Tune
HYPR-RX can enable driver and in-game features depending on whether a title is HYPR-Tune optimized. AMD says certain titles may automatically use supported FSR 1, 2, or 3 Quality modes. Enabling HYPR-RX therefore does not mean FSR 4 is universally supported or activated. Verify the title’s actual feature support and the device’s hardware eligibility in AMD’s HYPR-RX information.

Windows Automatic Super Resolution
Microsoft Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) is a different feature with its own platform and game/runtime limitations. It does not establish or repair AMD FSR 4 eligibility. See Microsoft’s Auto SR documentation for its separate requirements.

If FSR 4 is unavailable, compare only features that your hardware and game can use. The approaches differ in where they are implemented and what they require; they should not be assumed to offer equal image quality or compatibility.

6. Gather details if the problem remains
A useful support request needs enough detail to distinguish incompatibility from a driver, game, or display-mode issue. Include:
- Full handheld or laptop model and exact GPU name
- Windows version and AMD driver/software version
- Game name and version
- Graphics API, if known
- The exact setting or feature you tried to use
- What happened: missing option, disabled control, visual artifact, crash, or error message
Without the device, game, software versions, and symptom, there is no single device-specific fix that can be reliably recommended. Supported products, games, and feature requirements can change, so confirm current AMD, Microsoft, and OEM documentation for your exact setup.
