To save an edited video on your computer, click Export, choose the local export option, set the file name, format, and save location, review the output settings, then start the export. Filmora also offers device and publishing routes; select one of those only when it matches where you want the video to go.
Export a video to your computer
These steps follow Filmora’s current Windows guide. Exact labels and available settings can vary by Filmora version and platform.
- Finish editing and click Export. The export window opens with options for the output file.
- Choose the local export route. Set the file name, format, and destination folder. Filmora says the window lets you personalize the file location, format, resolution, and other settings.
- Review the output details. Check the displayed resolution, frame rate, file size, and duration, and confirm that the destination is where you want the finished video saved.
- Adjust settings if needed. Use the settings controls to select output properties such as resolution, frame rate, quality, and bitrate. The options and control names can differ between versions.
- Click Export and wait for rendering to finish. The resulting file is saved to the destination you selected.
See Filmora’s Windows export guide for the current workflow and window details.
Choose an export route for your destination
Local export, device presets, and direct publishing serve different purposes. A device-oriented encode is not the same as transferring the file to a phone or other device, and direct publishing is distinct from saving a local copy.

| Route | Best for | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Local file | Keeping a video on your computer or choosing where to store it | You select the save location and output options. Transfer the file separately if you need it on another device. |
| Device preset | Preparing an encode for a device profile offered by your Filmora version | Presets vary by version. An older Filmora guide notes the exported file remains on the computer; a separate transfer may be needed. |
| Direct publishing | Sending the video to a supported publishing destination, such as YouTube or TikTok | Choose this route when you want Filmora’s publishing workflow rather than only a local file. |
Filmora’s export guide describes local, device, and publishing options. The older device export guide explains that a device-oriented export does not itself move the file off the computer.
Choose settings that fit the source and destination
There is no single best resolution, frame rate, or bitrate for every project. Consider the source footage, the intended player or publishing platform, and whether smaller file size or closer matching to the source is more important.

- Memory: 32GB DDR4 Ram
- Storage: 1TB Solid State Drive (SSD) Fast Boot + Storage
- Operating System: Windows 11 Pro (64-bit)
- Resolution sets the video’s pixel dimensions. Use a value appropriate for the source and destination; Filmora’s available presets and custom-resolution controls can vary.
- Frame rate sets frames per second. Matching the source is a useful starting point when you do not have a specific delivery requirement.
- Bitrate and quality affect the balance between visual quality and file size. Filmora’s older guidance says file size depends on project duration and bitrate, and that lowering bitrate can reduce size; the precise controls may differ in current versions.
- Format affects compatibility with the player or platform where the video will be used. Select from the formats Filmora actually offers in your version rather than assuming every version has the same list.

Filmora’s Android and iPhone guide describes a mobile workflow in which you tap Export and choose options including resolution and FPS. Its mobile controls are not identical to desktop: that guide directs users to desktop Filmora to set bitrate or export a single audio clip. Because app interfaces can change, check the controls shown in your installed version.

If you cannot find the exported video
- Return to the export window or its settings and check the destination folder you selected.
- Confirm that rendering finished; the output file may not be ready while export is still in progress.
- If you chose a device preset, remember that the guide describes an encoded file saved on the computer, not an automatic transfer to the device.
