To complete “The Play’s the Thing,” finish the Novigrad quests “Get Junior” and “Count Reuven’s Treasure,” tell Priscilla what you learned about Dudu, then help her stage a play at Irina Renarde’s theater. Arrange ushers and publicity, choose the cast, and perform the lines in the script. The show draws Dudu out and advances the plan to rescue Dandelion.
Before you start: complete the Novigrad investigations
Although the quest may become available during the Novigrad investigation, it cannot progress until both “Get Junior” and “Count Reuven’s Treasure” are complete. Once Geralt has learned about Dudu and Dandelion, return to Priscilla and tell her what he knows about Dudu. She proposes a play to signal that Dudu is safe and draw him out.
How to prepare and stage the play
Work with Priscilla on the script
Discuss the plan with Priscilla and help her prepare the script. The title options reported by walkthroughs are “The Doppler’s Salvation” and “A Changeling Rescued.” The title changes the script document; the genre changes the presentation’s tone. Neither is reported to block quest completion.
Take the script to Irina Renarde
Bring the script to Irina at the Butcher’s Yard theater. She asks Geralt to arrange ushers and publicize the performance before the show.

Recruit ushers at the docks
Go to the docks and challenge the strongmen to the fistfight. Win to recruit them to keep order at the theater.
Ask the Puffins to publicize the show
Speak to the street performers known as the Puffins. There is a nearby encounter with thugs: handling it before speaking with the Puffins changes the scene, according to the walkthrough. It is optional, and paying Fatso’s boys does not make them leave. The Puffins’ publicity is listed as an optional reward opportunity after the show.

Which cast choices should you make?
For the reward-oriented choices reported by the walkthroughs, cast Priscilla as the Princess and Abelard as the Doppler-Prince. Irina can take the Princess role instead; Maxim is an alternative for the Prince but is described as unreliable and does not provide the same reported casting bonus. These choices affect reported rewards, not the play’s central purpose of drawing Dudu out.

How to perform the scripted lines
- Open the quest inventory and read the script if you need to check its wording.
- During the performance, select the dialogue options that match the script’s lines.
- Complete the show. The walkthroughs report a larger performance reward for getting more lines right.
After the play, Dudu reveals himself and agrees to help with the plan to rescue Dandelion.
What rewards can you expect?
Witcher.tools reports up to 1,310 XP and 130 crowns across the quest, conditional on optional preparation, casting, and performance choices. Treat that as a guide-reported maximum, not a guaranteed payout. The separate casting figures above are also reported by that guide; the available sources do not establish that the same totals apply to every playthrough or game version.
Walkthroughs report that completing optional preparation and getting the Puffins to publicize the play can add rewards. If you want to pursue the reported extras, complete those tasks before the performance rather than going straight to the show.
